OMEN 27u 4K Gaming Monitor
Microsoft Windows 11

This is my first time using one monitor for a laptop and gaming console. I'm noticing I cannot manually swap inputs and have them stay there if my Xbox and laptop are on at the same time. I thought I would be able to have multiple devices on and select the input I wanted or have the auto-switch trigger when I would type or grab the controller.

Is this a function or a bug? I was hoping to use the laptop when needed and then just switch inputs back to game. My Xbox (HDMI 2.1) takes priority--it will not let me switch inputs back to my laptop (HDMI 2) if both are on. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Hi @thoed_e,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Omen 27u monitor is prioritizing your Xbox (connected via HDMI 2.1) over your laptop (connected via HDMI 2) due to how it handles input auto-switching. Here are a few things to try to resolve this issue.

Turn off Auto Input Switching:

The HP Omen 27u may have an auto-switching feature enabled by default, which automatically selects the active input source. You can check the monitor's settings to turn this off:

  • Open the monitor's OSD menu (On-Screen Display) using the buttons on the monitor.
  • Navigate to the Input or Settings section.
  • Look for an option like Auto Input Switching or Input Priority and disable it.

Manual Input Switching:

If auto-switching is causing issues, you can manually select inputs:

  • Use the Input Source button or menu to toggle between your Xbox (HDMI 2.1) and laptop (HDMI 2). Make sure both devices are powered on.
  • If the monitor automatically reverts to the Xbox after selecting the laptop, it could indicate a bug or limitation in the monitor's firmware.

Update Monitor Firmware:

Check if there's a firmware update available for the HP Omen 27u. Sometimes, issues with input switching are addressed in firmware updates:

  • Go to HP's support page, look for your monitor model, and see if any updates are available.

HDMI Control (CEC) Settings on Xbox:

Your Xbox might have CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) settings enabled, which allows it to take control over the monitor and prevent it from switching inputs. To disable this:

  • On your Xbox, go to Settings > General > TV & display options > Device control and turn off the CEC features like HDMI control.

Try Different HDMI Ports:

If possible, switch the HDMI inputs:

  • Connect your Xbox to HDMI 2 and your laptop to HDMI 1 or another port to see if that changes the priority behavior.

By disabling auto input switching and checking HDMI CEC settings on your Xbox, you may be able to manually control which input the monitor uses, avoiding unwanted priority behavior.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
