@Mazza707 -- did you purchase the computer within the last 12 months. If so, contact HP Support, to open a claim against the HP Warranty. HP will repair/replace your computer, at HP's expense.

its just over 2 years old... so unfortunately that doesn't help!

@Mazza707 -- it's just over 2 years old

 

So, you have two options:

  1. spend a lot of money paying a certified computer technician to disassemble your computer, trouble-shoot, try to purchase a replacement component from HP, reassemble, and test. This may take a few days.
  2. spend under $40 to buy an external USB web-camera, and connect it to a USB socket. This may take a few hours. Also, within the Windows "Device Manager", click to "disable" the onboard camera, so that apps (Zoom? Skype?) do not try to use it.
