I have the same issue. I had it on HP Envy 2in1  X360 2024 model with I-5 /512GB processor. I even replaced it with another laptop HP Envy 2in1 2024 with I-7/1TB . But both have same issue. Tried updating driver several times and does not help.

The issue exists on multiple models with desktop and laptops. It exists on both regular intel as well as Nvidia graphics.

HP Support people have no clue how to fix it. They give useless generic answers. HP hire some smart people !!!

did you fix the issue for original poster??

same .. tried few type of driver updates but does not fix. After reboot brightness controls works but in few hours it stops working. Did you find the solution on exactly which driver version is working ? Or may be HP / intel needs to upgrade driver per latest windows upgrades.

I was ready to give up and 'reset PC' after not being successful trying various Intel & HP drivers (be careful with Intel old drivers since I had a black screen at login and could only fix that by typing in pwd without seeing it, then after login it was ok).

It's working fine now for me and not sure which step fixed it:

- In Settings/System/Recovery I chose 'Reinstall now' under 'Fix problems using Windows Update'.

- I then reinstalled the previous HP Intel graphics driver and it's working fine so far for several days. This is version 31.0.101.5590 and 6/10/2024

Spoke too soon as stopped working after it came out of sleep. Tried to create support ticket but the serial number is not recognized despite buying it directly from HP and copying that from HP Diagnostics tool:-(.

I tried 'Reset PC' with keep files but it doesn't reset drivers so brightness still didn't work, so I'll try next to delete all files hoping that will work. I noticed as well that when installing HP drivers it never shows installation finished so there's something wrong there too. Not sure yet what is causing that.

Dont take efforts to reset or delete anything. I have this with two brand new HP Envy and it does not work. I think windows upgrades and display driver upgrades are not working together with each other.

I have also tried installing (hotkeys package whatever i found) and it does not work either. Anyway brightness cannot be adjusted in desktop display setting as well as function keys. So it is not hotkey issue

Yes the brightness control in the control panel does not work either. If you rollback driver between versions it works again. It seems Intel graphics driver crashes after a while and I suspect something to do with power modes since typically it fails coming out of sleep or hibernate. But not sure exact cause other than this used to work fine for 6+ months until recently.

I just reset PC cleanly and works currently with the 6/2024 driver. I've paused 23H2 windows update for a week to figure out if it's related to that update.

i tried with older driver few days ago .. worked for some time and then again stopped working. Did you try disabling any automatic display brightness control like on battery on power like power saving modes etc.

Yes that's all turned off. I also found doing a clean reinstall did not work sadly. After a few hours you can't change the brightness anymore. I don't see anything in event viewer that shows an error.

Checking driver version it's still 6/10/2024 but I'm unable to update the driver with HP installs. It only unpacks the intel driver but then doesn't start anything. And that's on a clean install:-(.
