I installed newest Intel Arc driver which lets you configure lots of parameters. But after few hours it still breaks brightness controls. Kind of a workaround is to go to device manager / Display Adapters / Intel(R) UHD Graphics and then disable device and then enable again. Then brightness works again. But not good solution. Hopefully Intel/HP fixes this (haven't encountered this issue before on other brands).

I went to Intel site and installed gfx_win_101.5522.exe which is oldest driver I could find that could install (version before that will give issues). So far working including hibernation/sleep modes but will need more time to know for sure.

That might be the only workaround I can think off other than hoping HP/Intel releases a fixed driver.

UPDATE after 2 5 days: still working. Windows update pushed an update for this driver, but version seems to be the same:

Intel(R) UHD Graphics 770

Data Provider: Intel Corporation

Driver Date: 6/15/2023

Driver Version: 31.0.101.4502

Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Published

It's fixed for me now, at least for last 5 days. I just installed very old driver fx_win_101.5522.exe from Intel's web site. You could try that. Be careful though you don't install too old driver since you may have black screen issue at login (safe boot or just type without seeing anything to workaround that).

Hello!

I am having the same issue. I just purchased a new laptop at the end of august (Envy 360 16"). I noticed the brightness adjustment would stop working after the screen randomly goes black for a second or two. And it was always while I was using Chrome. I restart the computer and it works again. Are you still having this issue? Seems like its a problem on all new laptops/desktops from HP? I  I saw a similar post to my problem also. I'm still in the return window... but I kind of like this laptop. I thought about exchanging it for the same one but it seems like I might still have the issue.

It's very disappointing that HP can't figure out what the heck is wrong with their product. I've had firmware, BIOS, and Windows updates and the problem still exists. Maybe this is what happens when you hire DEI employees instead of folks who know their stuff and are at the top of their game writing code.

For me it's still fixed by installing an old Intel Graphics driver (see my previous post where I installed from Intel web site).

That might work here too, but to be careful here with display issues with a too old driver.
