Hi, would it be possible to use an external GPU with this style of adapter?

Or would the UEFI complain about unknown not whitelisted device? I do realise that getting the cable out would be troublesome, but I think it would still be possible, especially if I had only the M.2 harddrive installed.

Most probably not.
Bios will not recognize it, cause of the known whitelist issue with the HP Bios.
And HP Bios are RSA signed and cannot be modded.
You pay for the product, but you don't really own it.
HP has the final say and will decide what you can and what you can't do with it.
