HP Compaq Pro 6305
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

To my knowledge, no changes were made on my pc.

It is stuck on a blue Recovery screen that says the boot config data file is missing some required info.

File:\BDC

Error code: 0xc0000034

I have tried to boot from a recovery cd which i downloaded and get a message that says

Attempting Boot from CD-ROM.

No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found.

Memory test and hard disk check both were OK

I bought it as a refurbished computer so I am not sure if it is Windows 7 upgraded to 10 or if it was a clean install of Windows 10.

At this point, my solution is a sledge hammer 🙂 please tell me that you have a better solution.

Thanks

Hello

BCD is a software issue.

Download tool from https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10 to create a bootable media

Using this bootable media to boot to the affected system (tapping F9 at boot to select boot device which will be the CD/DVD/USB on which you had downloaded the above tool)

On the Windows Setup menu
Click “Repair your computer”
Choose “Troubleshoot”
Choose “Advanced options”
Choose “Command Prompt”

Execute the following commands to re-build the BCD

Bootrec /fixmbr
Bootrec /fixboot
Bootrec /scanos
Bootrec /rebuildbcd
Type “A” to add installation to boot list
Exit the command prompt
Choose “Continue” to the system.

The unit shall be back to normal.

Thank you for your help. I downloaded the bootable media onto a disk. Tapped F9 and chose SATA2. my choices looked like this....

UEFI Boot Sources

    Windows Boot Manager

Legacy Boot Sources

     ATAPI CD/DVD Drive

           SATA2

     Hard Drive

           SATA3

Network Controller (MBA v14.2.1 Slot 0300)

Nothing happened when i chose ATAPI CD/DVD Drive so I selected SATA2. Then it went to a black screen with a flashing little line about five spaces in.

Its not doing what its supposed to as per your instructions, so where do I go from here?

Select Windows Boot Manager under UEFI option.

Ok I selected Windows Boot Manager under UEFI option and it brought me back to the original blue screen....

Recovery

Your PC/Device needs to be repaired

The Boot Config Data file is missing info....

File:/BCD

Error Code: 0xc0000034

That screen was up for a couple minutes then my pc turned off.

Ok, follow this document to Enable Secure Boot in BIOS. It might be necessary to enable secure boot in the BIOS in order to start the computer using recovery media (USB Drives or CD/DVD). Follow these steps mentioned in the document belwo under the section - Enable Secure Boot on a Notebook compuet -  to enable Secure Boot in the BIOS.

will it be possile for you to click pictures of each tabs and post it here.

mask the system details - like serail number etc. so that your identity is concealed in this forum.

This will help me to guide you better.

NB : We have different BIOS screen and among all the system i tested i have not seen that particular screen, so would request you to send it.
