Oh, and one more thing, can you tell me how to add back usb booting and cd/dvd boot option to the boot manager?

Can I do this with Bootcfg and if so, how?

 

Will need this info just in case 🙂 Since now I know I can probably install windows in uefi mode from the network. 

 

Then I can mark this thread as solved since i'm not gonna try this thing out yet, as i just got everything up and running with csm module. Don't want to waste more of my time on this at the moment 😄

UPDATE:

New things I tried.  Didn't work.

1) Reflash current bios.

2) Restore previous bios.

3) Flash all possible bios variants for the model.

 

Now, the question remains, why does an official hp bios update clear nvram during the flash process. *cruelface*

 

and secondly, if I take it to a local hp service center, will/can they add back the efi boot entries? I tried doing it myself, I was so near to getting it boot windows 8.1 installation media through winpe with pxe, but it's extremely hard to configure it all so I just gave up.

 

Please, can somebody answer this!?!

Firstly a page from HP on UEFI

About UEFI and the Startup Menu

 

To show up as an option in UEFI, a device has to be UEFi enabled. For most CD/DVDs you would need to use legacy boot as there is normally not a UEFI boot partition on the cd/dvd. If it is a UEFI CD/DVD then it should be normally bootable in UEFI. For the USB it is possible to make it UEFI compatible. See the following from the TipsandTricks Forum:

And from the Microsoft TechNet:

Boot to UEFI Mode or Legacy BIOS mode

I set up a tftp server with TinyPXE and booted a modified efi shell 2.0 from the network. Now I'm in the efi shell.

I dunno if i should be glad i found this or not.. But i'm having the exact same issue under the exact same circumstances as you.. Only difference is my model is a Pavilion G6 2010AX.. Everything you've mentioned is the exact same at my end.. Been pulling my hair out for the past few hours! I've tried half the things you have already.. Somebody HELP!!! :'(

Btw I think it's not the boot entries that are corrupt, but something has gone wrong with the uefi firmware since the boot list repopulates when I network boot the shell and exit the shell. O.O This way I could boot off any media I had connected to my laptop. I can even been into windows this way... when my laptop enters sleep or after shutdown / restart I have to go through this procedure again...

I sent an email to a local HP repair center explaining my problem throughly and asked them if they could do something about it...

 

If I could get the full uefi 2.0 shell working I'd clear and readd all the boot manager entries, but I couldn't. and... the modified uefi 2.0 shell had bcfg working but I'd need 'mount' working aswell...

Steps to fix no UEFI devices detected in HP G6 2000 series system

 

 

Downgrade BIOS to F.0A (sp57981)

 

Upgrade BIOS to F.24 (sp60587)

 

 

This will fix the issue and give you UEFI and secure boot again, it seems the F.26 BIOS is faulty so stick with F.24

EDIT: Yes, I know this is an old post, but it seems many people are suffering with this issue so I have figured out the fix and shared it for others.

 

NOTICE: It appears some anti-viruses are detecting HP's BIOS update utility as malware, I can assure you this is not the case and its a false-positive, if you still don't trust my link, search for the BIOSes you require by googling sp57981 and sp60587
