Radeon HD6450 worked like a charm (and cheaper than the GeForce 720). Thanks for your help.

Hello,

I own an HP Pavillion 500-43nl desktop PC ,  Product Number:   J5M31EA . I would like to upgrade the video card with an Nvidia GTX 960.  Is it possible and is there a specific model that suites better my Pc?

Greetings

Hi,

The HP 500-343nl has specifications indicating either an external 180 watt power supply (brick) or an internal 300 watt power supply. Which power supply is supplied with your PC?

Due to power limitations of your PC, the NVIDIA 960 is not going to work.

--------

It seems a bit strange that HP would publish both power supplies for your particular product number. I am going to ask HP to clarify the published specifications.

I' ve got the internal one . Would it then be possible to change the power supply with another more powerful ?

Raxnor,

The internal power supply in your PC can be replaced.  Look for a Corsair CX500, CX600 or CS550m.  These are excellent power supplies.

Fine. Do you think then that a Gtx 960 will fit in the motherboard ?

Hi Raxnor,

Review the article posted at the top of this thread.  Open up your PC and do some measuring.

Hallo

i own HP Compaq Elite 8300 MT p.n: QV994AV
i would like to upgrade its GPU as much as possible (aiming for witcher 3)
i thought about the gtx960 will it be possible? will i need to replace my PSU?
i found three possible problems
1. PSU may be too weak
2. pcie X16 1.0 (is it realy a problem?)

3. size: will it fit in?

tnx in advance

@yardenos

The PSU in your 8300 MT is only 320 watts.  Did you find a NVIDIA GTX 960 that is rated for use with a 320 watt PSU?

PCI-E x16 x1.0?  Where did you find that information?

Read the posted article at the top of this thread.  Open up your PC and do some measuring. There are a number of "stubby" NVIDIA GTX 960s being made.

If 1,2,3 where not problems then isn't there another question that you should have asked?

1.https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/printer/power-requirements-for-graphics-cards
if i go by this list the minimum requirement for the gtx 960 would be 400w
so im short 80.. is it possible to change my psu? do you agree it is needed?

2.the pci-expressX16 1.0 part i took from the manual..
http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/manualsResults/?sp4ts.oid=523285...
there was no gen number after it so i just assume its gen 1.0
i know it should be backwards compatible is it realy true that the lose of functioning is only few percent?

3. i will measure it and hope for good
