I posted this under hardware because it was about the Ralink wireless card, but the problem is about an HP Suport Assistant update so maybe I should have posted it here in software. Thought I would try again; no answer over at the hardware forum.

HP Pavillion Desktop
Product name: p6-2220t Product number: B3F79AV#ABA
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit sp 1
On August 1, 2013 I downloaded this update from HP Support Assistant:
Ralink 802.11n Wireless LAN - SoftPaq Number: SP62055 - Version: 5.0.27.0Ap1 - Size: 27.57 MB
Ever since, every time I start my computer I get this error message:

I looked up Raylink UpnP Media Server and found this:
http://win.cutephp.com/t/what_is_ralink_upnp_media_server/
It is a product to buy. The update to Ralink 802.11n Wireless LAN card has linked to something that I have to buy or something. I don’t want it and I would like the error message to go away. I downloaded this update because HP Support Assistant recommended it.
Has this happened to anyone else? How do I get rid of the error message?

Hello mpw101
As I understand it you have an HP Pavilion p6-2220t CTO Desktop PC and are running the Ralink SP62055.exe? I have no idea why the Support Assistant would recommend that update as it is for Business model computers and not for your computer. I would recommend that you follow the instructions below.
Step 1. Download this driver for your computer
Step 2. Go into the Device Manager
Step 3. Right click on the Ralink Wireless and Uninstall it (ensure to remove the driver when prompted)
Step 4. Double click on the file you downloaded and install it as it is the correct Ralink driver for your computer
This should resolve your issue. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!

Thank you for responding. And thank you for your very clear instructions.
Unfortunately after I uninstalled Ralink sp62055.exe I was unable to install sp58084.exe.
Although sp 58084.exe is the first update HPSA recommended I install on 12/16/12 and it is the driver that was installed when on 8/8/13 HPSA recommended I install version 5.0.25.0 (sp62055.exe). It will not install now.
I have no idea why. Hope you can help. Thank goodness for system restore! I’m back where I was and on line.
If it helps at all, Ralink was apparently bought by Mediatek and in the Programs and Features window Mediatek is listed as the publisher of version 5.0.25.0 (sp62055.exe.)
I saved a snip of the error window to word but can't seem to copy/paste it with the text so here is what it said:
Ralink Wireless Network Controller Driver Update
Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update.
Update has been cancelled. (9996)
Thank you again for your help.

Hello again mpw101
I am sorry I failed to notice in the System requirements for the driver I linked you above the following information.
"You must be logged on as an administrator to install this update."
This means you need to right click on the driver once you download it and select "Run as administrator"
Lets, get this issue resolved!

I am the only user and the administrator on this computer, so I was not sure I needed to click “run as administrator” but I did and got the same error message. (learned how to post them)
I found that there was a discrepancy between the versions of the drive shown in Device Manager and the driver version HPSA sent to download in August:
Anyway after I uninstalled it, Device Manager showed the Ralink drive was gone, but then I noticed this line was still in Programs and Features:
The Device Manager showed the Ralink drive was gone, so I uninstalled it from Programs and Features too. Then I tried to install sp58084.exe again. This time it appeared to install and gave a message that it had, but when I went to device manager I found this.
Meanwhile back to Programs and Features. Raylink did not go away. Just the version number changed. So then I clicked “change” and another Ralink window opened.
I clicked “Remove All”. Finally it was gone from Programs and Features.
Then I went back and uninstalled the driver Device Manager said it could not load by right clicking on the wireless card and clicking uninstall. Then to be sure I decided to restart my computer.
When it restarted a bubble appeared in the lower right corner informing me that a drive was loading. Who knew? Once all of Ralink was uninstalled the computer loaded what it wanted. This is the driver I have and it is loaded and working.
There is no Ralink program listed in Programs and Features now. I think some other Ralink program loaded that had nothing to do with the drive when the driver updated and it was in Programs and Features and it messed up uninstalling and updating.
When all was done, I restarted my computer once more and the error message that had started all this had disappeared. Also disappeared was “Ralink UPnP Media” which I had found listed in services a while ago but did not know what it was or where it came from.
I was afraid to do anything on my own. I did not know HPSA should never have sent the driver update and would never have tried to uninstall it if you had not advised me. It took awhile to get it all off my computer and I did not know the Ralink Wireless LAN card in the Device Manager and the Ralink Wireless LAN card listed in Programs and Features were two different things.
Thank you for your help.

Ran HPSA scan for Updates. It was going to do this at 7:00pm anyway so I decided to see what happens early in the morning. Sure enough it says I need to download the Ralink Wireless LAN update. Now I have an annoying excamation point next to the question mark in the task bar. The only way to get rid of it last time was to install the update. And it reappeared a week later and I did it again before it finally went away.
Is there another way to convince HPSA I don't want this?

Hello again mpw101
I do not know why you keep getting that prompt and I understand it being annoying. I am providing you with a link to an HP Support titled Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 7). In the document you will see how to adjust the settings so as to turn off the notifications. At least for now until a new Ralink update comes through. For whatever reason something about your operating system does not like the update so I would wait until a new update comes through.
I hope this helps with your Ralink update issue. Thank you for bringing this issue to the HP Forums. Have a great day!

Hello mpw101
I am glad that I was able to resolve your issue by having you uninstall the Ralink driver that you had installed and let the system determine which driver to use. If you could mark my post in this thread where I advised you to uninstall the Ralink driver here as Solution Provided so that other HP users having issues with the HP Support Assistant installing the incorrect Ralink driver can get this same assistance it would be much appreciated. You are the thread creator and thus the only one able to do this.
Thank you for bringing your issue to the HP Forums and giving me the opportunity to assist you. Have a great day!

I clicked "accept as solution" in the drop down menu under options, but people may need to read my long post as well as it was not nearly as easy as you suggested to uninstall the Ralink driver completely so the one in the link you sent could be installed.
Also I did not disabled HPSA monitoring updates. I just deleted the Ralink update I did not want and it went to deleted items in the Action log and so far has not sent any more notices to install it.

I believe this thread is related to another Ralink 802.11n Wireless LAN Card issue on my HP Pavilion p6774y (Windows Home Premion 7 with Service Pack 1, 64-bit). I received the same download prompt from the HP Support Assistant, but this update is the likely cause (after extensive checking by both my cable wireless provider and Netgear about our wireless router) of a sudden halving of my download speed. Apparently this update was installed as recommended by Microsoft but it has caused a significant and clear decrease in the function of my wireless connection. From the information on the web and the release information, I do not believe that this update fixes this particular bug.
