When I try to open HP Support Assistant I get an error message HPSF.exe has stopped working. Application has encountered a serious problem and must close. My warranty expired on 09/12/2012. Does HP Support Assistant go away when warranty expires. If not anybody have an idea how I can fix?

Hi,
It's nothing to do with your warranty ending, however this can be a temperamental piece of software.
Try the following.
First of all, uninstall your current version of HP Support Assistant by using the Microsoft 'Fixit' on the following link - this is particularly useful in correcting issues that may prevent reinstallation on machines running a 64bit OS.
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
When this has completed, restart the PC.
Next download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the page on the link below - the download links are towards the bottom of the page.

After the installation, restart the PC again.

Worked like a charm for me...
---
(The Mr.Fixit program DID remove HPSupport Assistant, but at the end of the process there was a message saying it did NOT remove the program, BUT the problem was solved. Hmmm... Contradictory info, if you ask me.) Anyway, the reinstallation was nice and smooth. Thanks!

I have the same problem of the dialogue box telling I need to restert etc so followed the solution and have uninstalled but as I went to download from the link supplied I thought it said it's only for Windows 8 - I have windows 7 and don't want to upgrade
