If you cannot connect to the internet at all with the PC, just download XP SP2 from the link below and copy it to either a CD or USB flash drive, and update your PC with it that way.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=28

This is a standalone download and you can just run it. Ignore the references to network installation and IT professionals.

Then you will be able to post the hardware ID's for any missing devices you have once SP2 is installed.

Hi
I have now got service packs 2 & 3 and have followed your instructions. In hardware ID it states the following PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_1677&SUBSYS_3006103C&REV_01

And

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_1677&CC_0200

Can't see 6 digit number string that you mentioned.
Thanks

Hi:

You have a Broadcom Gigabit ethernet adapter.  Since I don't know what model PC you have, I will have to take a shot in the dark.

If this driver doesn't work, please provide the full model number of your PC.

Hi:

The device decodes to the NetXtreme BCM5752 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express network adapter.

You can try the Lenovo XP 32 bit drivers for it.

How do I find it?

I enter the codes in the applicable boxes at the link below.

I have a question here Paul...there's vendor and device search box....which box did you enter the code??? I really want to know how it works man....please teach me

HP Recommended

You're very welcome.

You input the VEN codes in the Vendor search box and the DEV codes in the device search box.

Let's use your device as an example...

Input the 14E4 in the vendor search box.  That is what the VEN in the ID string stands for.

Input the 1600 in the device search box. That is what the DEV in the ID string stands for.

Hit the search button and you will find your device listed.

It does not work 100% of the time but most of the time it does. When you can't find it on that website, just google the whole ID and see what hits you get.
