I can only agree that the HP site is difficult to navigate around. I'm on Windows 7 so don't know about Windows 8 but for Windows 7 the instructions are here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01868333 .
Hope that helps

Hi,
In my experience if you have a problem, unless it is something simple which it never is, the quickest route is to reinstall windows. This has the bonus of getting rid of all the crap as well! Using HP Recovery Manager makes the job easy but do save all your personal programmes and data as Backups. There are plenty of programmes to make this relatively straightforward. I have just done my Desktop and it took a few hours as opposed to days of trying to find the fault. HPSA all works fine but whether you will think it is worth the effort is open to discussion!
Cheers, Brian.

Ok, I have a HP 2000 Notebook PC (purchaced Feb 2013), running Windows 8.1, 64-bit. and this has been an ongoing problem for almost 2 months now. On Nov 7, 2013, I uninstalled HP Support Assistant, reboted my computer, downloaded and ran HP Support Assistant version sp58915.exe. I still encounter the problem as soon as I click to read a message in the Assistant, or it stops working on it's own. I have now uninstalled and reinstalled v. sp58915.exe six times in the past 20 days. I just went through this process yet again an hour ago, ran the Assistant to check for updates and messages, and when I clicked to read the first message HPSF.exe has stopped working again! God I am sick of this problem. What am I doing wrong, or when is HP going to update HPSF and fix the problem?

It may be worthwhile having a look at my post on 01-15-2013 12:49 PM number 49 which worked for me and a number of other people - it was on Windows 7 though.
