Just received my HP Reverb G2.
When I have tried connecting to USB Type C port on my MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC motherboard
or USB Type C on my MSI RTX 2080ti Gaming X Trio GPU the headset doesn't power.
It works with the USB C TO USB A adapter and power supply.
Should the USB C connections work with my GPU or motherboard or is it possible I have a faulty headset?

I have the same issue with my ASUS Maximus XI Hero Z390 motherboard. I have two USB 3.1 Gen 2 sockets right next to each other. The only difference is that one is type A and one is type C. The type C doesn't seem to work but the type A does when using the supplied type C adapter.

I've tested again and Type C Connection works when used with the power supply but not without.
I've seen users on YouTube using the USB Type C connection without the power supply.

I have found a solution for my ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero motherboard. There was a setting in the UEFI BIOS.
Under the "Advanced" tab and then "Advanced\Onboard Devices Configuration", I found a setting for "Back I/O USB Type C Power Mode". This has two options, "Auto" and "Enabled". It was set to "Auto" by default. Changing it to "Enabled" has solved my problem.
I'm not sure if this will help other motherboards, but it worked for me.
Good luck

You are an absolute hero!!
I think this has sorted my issue. Same motherboard, i9-9900k, RTX2080TI and I could rarely get the G2 to work and when it did it was glitchy as. Oculus was all good and never had a problem, but the G2 just never wanted to work at all. I tried an external powered usb hub and upgraded the psu to 850w, I knew it was a power issue somewhere.
Thank you @andywag

I have an Asrock Z490 Taichi, and I was having the same FRUSTRATING issues, where the power was cutting in and out to the USB-C port that is built in to the MoBo, such that it was continually crashing and freezing MSFS 2020 to the point of generating tons of error data for the MSFS team, as we were blaming all the issues on that software. I have been pulling my hair out for two months on this. (Yes, I am now bald, sad to say).
However, with a simple move of the USB connector from the Reverb G2 to the REGULAR USB-3 ports (with the included adapter, no other adapter works!), it solved the problem(s). There def. seems to be an issue with most MoBo power delivery to these relatively new interfaces, but I have not checked to see if there is a setting in my Bios (like the user above mentions) that would enable more robust power delivery. I am simply pleased that I am NOW FINALLY getting the experience that I expected and paid for, and it does blow me away! What a great product, and they were made to go together! (and I can finally regrow some hair, maybe)
