Omen 17t-cb000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just purchased a new OMEN laptop. I am in the process of switching over docs/files and tweaking settings to my liking.

I am having a problem with duplicating my display settings on new OMEN laptop. Both laptops have the same screen resolution and refresh rate.

OLD specs:

Running windows 8.1, 64 bit x-64 based processor, 3rd gen i7, 17.3 diag FHD 60Hz (1920x1080)

NEWs specs:

Running windows 10 Pro, 64 bit x-64 based processor, 9th gen i7; 17.3 diag FHD 60Hz (1920x1080)

The biggest issue is with the desktop icons and text. My old icon and text size is great with or w/o glasses. When I go into display settings on new OMEN, icon size is either to small OR WAY to big. Also, when I enlarge icon size text in icon name stays to small.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Use the steps in this section to configure your display for more desktop space.

  • Note: always select the recommended resolution

extend or duplicate the desktop with a second monitor.

  1. Right-click anywhere on the desktop, and then click Display settings (Windows 10) or Screen Resolution (Windows 8).

  2. Make sure the correct number of monitors displays.

    Windows 10

    • If all of your monitors display, continue with these steps.

NOTE: Two monitors might display as one, with 1|2 in the center, indicating the same screen duplicated on two monitors. To change to an extended desktop display, continue with these steps.
  3. Scroll down to Multiple displays, if necessary, click the drop-down menu, and then select a display option.

To set up a wireless monitor, click Connect to a wireless display.

If you cannot change the display options, go to the section to Configure the display with the graphics driver.

  4. Adjust the screen resolution and orientation, as necessary.

  5. Extended desktop only: Match the monitors on the display to how they are physically positioned. To identify the monitors, click Identify. Numbers display on the monitors to help you arrange them.

  6. Windows 10: Click Keep changes, if necessary, to save the new display settings.

And, also try this workaround:

Method 1:

Right click the desktop, choose Graphic Options>Output To>Extended Desktop> Built-in display + MonitorExtended desktop enabled, but screen 2 (on the left) can only be accessed by moving the cursor to the right! right click the desktop and choose Graphic Properties - choose 'Multiple Displays' from the side menu.

Method 2:

open Windows Settings and go to System > Display. Select the monitor where you want to get the icons and scroll down until you get Multiple displays option. Here, you should find a checkbox labelled Make this my main display. Select the checkbox.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
