I have been using this laptop for quite some time, recently I have been facing an issue regarding the charging - when the Laptop is idle or Shut the charging is stable and I see no problem but whenever I am opening an application or game while the charger is connected the charging becomes uneven, as if there is frequent cut in power at an interval of around 2 sec, I have tried plugging the charger to different sockets, tried fully draining the battery, even checked the whole system for viruses or malware, sometimes it gets better but after using the laptop for around 3-4Hr again the problem happens, the charging indicator light flickers and the batter drains down very fast, I have even tried updating and reinstalling the drivers.

Hi @UserParker,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Pavilion Gaming 15 laptop is experiencing inconsistent charging behavior, especially under load. This can be caused by a variety of issues, ranging from hardware problems to software settings. Here’s a structured approach to diagnose and resolve the problem:
**1. Check Power Adapter and Cable
- Verify Adapter Specifications:
- Ensure that the power adapter meets the laptop’s required wattage. For gaming laptops, the power adapter usually needs to provide a higher wattage than standard adapters.
- Inspect Cables:
- Check for any visible damage to the charging cable or connectors. Sometimes, frayed or damaged cables can cause intermittent charging issues.
- Try a Different Adapter:
- If you have access to another compatible HP adapter, test it to rule out issues with your current adapter.
**2. Inspect Charging Port
- Check for Loose Connections:
- Inspect the charging port on the laptop for any signs of looseness or physical damage.
- Clean the Port:
- Use compressed air to gently clean the charging port and remove any debris that might be causing connection issues.
**3. Examine Battery Health
- Check Battery Condition:
- Go to Settings > System > Battery (or Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Battery Report) to check battery health.
- Run Battery Diagnostics:
- Use HP Support Assistant or a third-party tool to run diagnostics on the battery.
**4. Update and Reinstall Drivers
- Update Battery and Power Management Drivers:
- Go to Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
- Expand Batteries, right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and select Update driver.
- Reinstall Drivers:
- Uninstall the battery driver from Device Manager and then restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot.
**5. Check Power Settings
- Adjust Power Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings.
- Select High performance or Balanced power plan.
- Configure Advanced Settings:
- In the power plan settings, check the Advanced settings and make sure there are no settings that could affect charging or power usage when the laptop is under load.
**6. Perform a BIOS Update
- Update BIOS:
- Visit the HP Support Website.
- Enter your laptop model and download the latest BIOS update.
- Follow the instructions to update the BIOS. Sometimes BIOS updates can resolve power management issues.
**7. Perform a Battery Calibration
- Calibrate the Battery:
- Fully charge the laptop to 100%.
- Let the battery drain completely until the laptop shuts down.
- Fully charge the laptop again to 100%. This can help recalibrate the battery and improve charging accuracy.
**8. Check for Software Conflicts
- Boot in Safe Mode:
- Restart the laptop and press Shift + F8 or F8 during boot to enter Safe Mode.
- Check if the charging issue persists in Safe Mode. If not, a software conflict or background process might be causing the issue.
- Check for Malware:
- Perform a full system scan using a trusted antivirus or antimalware tool to ensure there are no malicious programs affecting performance.
**9. Inspect System and CPU Usage
- Monitor System Resources:
- Use Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to monitor CPU, GPU, and system resource usage.
- Identify any processes or applications consuming excessive resources, which might be causing the charging issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
