Correct me if I'm wrong but what I'm getting is that you are saying that HP didn't fix the software issue before sending it back to me so I would have to do the steps you are suggesting.

Dealing with a rigid, institutionalized entity such as HP often requires jumping through hoops -rightly or wrongly.
