HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2000 (2P6B1AV)

Hello. I plan to purchase a second monitor that is GSYNC compatible. Considering that my current laptop doesn't have a DP, only an HDMI port which, to my knowledge does not support GSYNC, do workarounds such as HDMI to DP adapter or cable work or is the feature just not available at all for my laptop? I have an HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2087AX.

Hi @icko_derick,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-ec2087AX features an HDMI port, but unfortunately, it doesn't have a DisplayPort (DP) output. G-SYNC typically requires a DisplayPort connection to function properly, and HDMI alone may not be sufficient.

While there are HDMI-to-DisplayPort adapters available, it's important to note that not all HDMI-to-DisplayPort adapters or cables support G-SYNC, as G-SYNC compatibility relies on specific technologies and protocols. In many cases, G-SYNC requires a native DisplayPort connection to work.

To use G-SYNC on a second monitor, you might need to consider alternative solutions:

  • Check for G-SYNC Compatibility: Confirm whether your chosen monitor supports G-SYNC over HDMI. Some monitors have G-SYNC compatibility through HDMI, but it's essential to check the monitor specifications and compatibility details.
  • Explore External Graphics Solutions: If G-SYNC compatibility is crucial to you, consider an external graphics solution like an eGPU (external graphics processing unit) that connects to your laptop via Thunderbolt 3. This would provide a DisplayPort output for G-SYNC support.
  • Update GPU Drivers: Ensure that your laptop's GPU drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes, driver updates can improve compatibility and enable additional features.

Remember that G-SYNC is primarily designed for desktop systems, and laptop compatibility can vary based on specific hardware configurations. Always check the technical specifications and compatibility information for both your laptop and the monitor you plan to purchase to ensure a smooth experience.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
