So I had been wanting to upgrade to a better laptop for a while and was able to get an Omen 16 on sale (i7-11800H, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD). Just want it mainly for non-hardware-intensive RPGs like Pathfinder etc. so nothing hardcore.
Yet I've installed the game & it's running even worse than my old ASUS laptop when the laptop is plugged in - talking like 10FPS - and yet when I unplug the power it runs blazing fast? And the whole operating system in general is really laggy when plugged in too.
Huh, you'd think it would be entirely the opposite that plugged in = better performance?
I downloaded a bunch of Windows updates etc. when setting things up (one of which included a BIOS update) so no idea if that affected things. Have Googled and can't seem to find any solutions to this problem. Current BIOS version is F.26 if that helps.
Anything I can do to make sure it runs properly on power? As gaming drains the battery a lot anyway.
Do I need to find some new firmware or drivers or something? I have all the latest GeForce Experience & Nvidia Drivers, have forced Windows to choose the NVIDIA over the Intel card etc. and all the typical fixes, but no change.
So frustrated, never had this happen with a laptop before where it runs better on battery than when plugged in!

I came across this past thread another user was having with the same issue, unfortunately the thread was locked so I couldn't reply to it and there was no clear solution other than one person saying the AC Adaptors that HP provide are very poor quality/have issues:
Unfortunately there was no resolution to this issue in the thread...

I ran the 'Component Test' in the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool for the AC Adaptor and it continually came up with 'Cancelled' and wouldn't run... yet when I tried the test for the Battery it came up as green/PASSED fine.
Seems these default power supplies for these laptops are crappy, sigh.
