Hi everyone, since my hp OMEN 17-AN015NF has no SSD, i wanted to replace the current HDD with an SSD and place the HDD in a caddy instead of the CD player.
I saw i needed to find a 9.5mm caddy, but every 9.5mm caddy i find on amazon (for example) state they're for macboooks, does it make any difference ? can I still order those ?
I was thinking about this one since it's the only one that doesn't state it's for a macbook :

@incomn, welcome to the forum.
There is actually a M.2 socket on the motherboard. Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for the laptop. In Chapter 5, Removal and replacement procedures for Customer Self-Repair parts, Page 44, is a list of compatible M.2 SSD's. You can use these specifications to choose the one that you want to buy.
Here is a diagram of where to find the socket:
I circled it in Red.
The M.2 NVMe SSD's are much faster. I like Samsung products. They seem to work better with HP motherboards. You can contact their Tech Support and give them the specifications. They will help you choose the best drive for your system.

Thanks for your answer, I opened the laptop yesterday and noticed that the CD player is, in fact, a 9mm one, not a 9.5mm, so i'll go for this solution temporarily, since M2 SSD are a bit more expensive, and out of my budget... 😕
Though, i'll keep it in mind for a future upgrade !

You are welcome, @incomn. I realized when I recommended the NVMe SSD's that they are more expensive. However, I wanted you to know that the socket is available.
Good luck!

just installed it yesterday, and it workd like a charm !
Boot time went from 1min 30seconds to around 6 seconds !
(also, all SSD's are compatible with this solution, whereas M2 ones have to be specific ones, which you can find the list on the manual you linked)
