Hi,

If you really want to buy a gaming laptop, I would suggest looking somewhere else.

Because of the fact that HP limits their CPU and you cannot modify this in any way, not to mention the fact that unvdervolting is impossible which is a shame, since it would constantly sit at arround 3.9Ghz clock speed and would reduce the temps of the processor. Now I know why RAZER laptops cost 2.1k £ and not 1.5k£. Their colling system with vapor chamber and the fact that they don`t temper with the CPU and let it run as INTEL made it.

Also a good , a very good laptop is the one from ACER. The predator has better cooling system, cpu unlocked. gpu unlocked , you don`t have to work your way arround MSI afterburner to acces the voltage and modify the curve, it comes with the gpu unlocked out of the box, so you can do your own tweaking. Same price as the omen, better built quality and better thermals.
If I were to go back I would never consider getting a laptop from HP

Would wait a bit longer and probably get RAZER , ACER or even Alienware but never HP again .

I am so dissapointeed. Had a support ticket with one of their specialists, if I can call him that. He basically asked me to update my drivers and set the machine on comfort. He didn`t really understood my issues and the problem with the temps , the power throttling , the fact that my SSD is constantly at 110 degrees celsius.

So, after all I wrote here, I hope you do reconsider buying anything from this company.

Their support is awfull and they have a way to break their own machines in due time, like they did to the hp gaming pavilion with the latest BIOS and with the HP OMEN.

Individual experiences do matter, for years I bought Dell but after a warranty issue I moved the whole family off dell and vowed never to buy anything from them again. I hope HP read all these posts about removing restrictions.

I have had HP laptops for years now and they have been solid & reliable,I am really enjoying my omen 15, its light and fast.

Couple of things could be improved - I have dry hands but the case picks up finger prints. The other thing is the CPU.....

..gimping the CPU by taking away under-volt is a bad move, this is a no brainer to restore as its an almost zero cost burden for HP and would help the laptop range compete against competitors.

If you, HP, enable in software only then there is no chance of anyone bricking laptops, but you know this already.

Its not a security issue to hid behind as other manufacturers still permit it

Would I have bought MSI if I had been aware of the CPU lock out? possibly, they have a direct competing product which looks good and same price range, or maybe I would have gone for the ryzen omen model instead

Ellusive, I did trial a razor blade 15 and returned it, it had an i7-9750H  and an GTX 1660 Ti

The weight was similar but case better, all aluminium. I just didn't enjoy the keyboard on that model, it was very light touch.

The omen is, subjectively at least in my hands, on par in performance. The razor actually ran its fans louder and more frequently than the omen. I didn't keep it long enough to optimise it though.

I am just a causal gamer, but eg playing a new titile - WWII maxed out, getting very high fps with no lag and actually quite low cpu and gpu temps. I feel like I have a lot of headroom to use if I need it.

Benchmarking with cinebench, the cpu temp goes too high unless using throttlestop, and the scores for the i7-10750H are not as good as the competition

I am going to do a re-paste to try and get my cpu temps down without having to gimp the power levels in throttlestop
