The fans keep randomly turning off, and I can't find a solution. It just says 0 RPM in Omen Gaming Hub when this happens. I've seen other posts from people with similar issues but haven't found something that works for me. I've reset my laptop, reinstalled Omen Gaming Hub, and even installed the Omen Gaming Hub SDK from your site. It's not a hardware issue, I've run diagnostics that come up with no errors, and it's clearly related to Omen software somehow because sometimes it works for a bit suddenly when I quit and reopen the software in Task Manager. Please help me fix this, this laptop was not cheap and it would be crazy to have to throw it away because of a software issue.
Seems like the same issue as described here, but there was never an accepted solution: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Laptop-Fans-Stop-Working-Rando...

Hi @Gameshot
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I hear your frustration — it’s stressful to have a performance laptop behave this way, especially when diagnostics say everything is fine but the fans don’t behave consistently. Since you’ve already covered the basics (resetting Windows, reinstalling OMEN Gaming Hub, and even trying the SDK), let me walk you through some focused steps that have helped with this particular “fans dropping to 0 RPM” behavior:
1. Cleanly Reinstall OMEN Gaming Hub & Services
Sometimes the issue lies in the background services rather than the app itself. Try:
Uninstall OMEN Gaming Hub and OMEN SDK Package from Apps & Features.
Press Win+R → services.msc, and make sure the service HP Omen Command Center Service is completely removed. If it lingers, delete it manually.
Restart your laptop.
Download and install the latest versions from HP:
OMEN Gaming Hub (Microsoft Store)
OMEN SDK Package (HP Support) (search your model number)
2. Update BIOS and Embedded Controller
The fan control logic is tied into both the BIOS and the EC (embedded controller).
Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page → Enter your product (OMEN 17-ck2000).
Under BIOS, install the newest version available.
Restart and let the firmware update complete fully before checking fans again.
3. Disable “Hybrid” Fan Control Profiles
In OMEN Gaming Hub:
Go to Performance Control.
Switch from “Automatic/Smart” to Manual or Performance.
Set a custom curve and see if the fans stick. Many users found that keeping it off “Smart” mode prevented the 0 RPM issue.
4. EC Reset (Power Reset)
If the EC firmware is stuck:
Shut down the laptop.
Disconnect AC power.
Hold the power button for ~15–20 seconds.
Plug AC back in and power on.
This resets the EC, which often clears odd fan behavior.
5. Check HP CoolSense or Conflicting Tools
If you have HP CoolSense or any 3rd-party fan/thermal tool installed, uninstall it. Conflicting utilities sometimes override OMEN Hub and cause fans to idle incorrectly.

Thanks for your response. I've tried reinstalling Gaming Hub and the SDK, but it doesn't help at all. I don't see "HP Omen Command Center Service " in Windows even when Omen Gaming Hub is installed, all I see is HP Omen HSA. Omen HSA stays no matter what. My BIOS is already the latest version and my fans wouldn't last long enough to let it update even if I wanted to change it. I've hard reset it multiple times, to no positive result. I don't have any third party tools installed. What else should I do?

Hi @Gameshot,
@Hawks_Eye is away at the moment, and I'll be assisting you further.
Thank you for the detailed update, that really helps narrow things down! Since you’ve already confirmed the BIOS is up to date, tried the EC reset, and reinstalled Gaming Hub + SDK, but the fans are still randomly dropping to 0 RPM, let’s dig a bit deeper:
1. Perform a Clean Boot
Sometimes background processes can interfere with OMEN HSA (HP System Architecture Service).
Press Win+R → msconfig → go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
Do the same under the Startup tab (open Task Manager and disable all startup items).
Restart your laptop and test whether the fans remain stable with OMEN Hub running.
If it works in clean boot, then a third-party service is clashing even if no extra thermal tools are installed.
2. Check HP System Event Utility
The HP System Event Utility is a background driver that communicates hotkeys and thermal commands.
Visit HP Support → Drivers for OMEN 17-ck2000.
Under Software–Solutions, reinstall/update HP System Event Utility.
This sometimes restores missing fan/thermal hooks.
3. Reinstall HP Platform Thermal Framework
In Device Manager, expand System Devices.
Look for Intel Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework.
Right-click and uninstall all related entries.
Restart, then let Windows reinstall them automatically, or grab the latest version from Intel’s site/HP drivers.
4. Hardware UEFI Diagnostics
Even though earlier diagnostics passed, I’d suggest running the UEFI Hardware Diagnostics directly from BIOS (F2 on boot) instead of Windows-based tools.
Run a System Extensive Test → this sometimes picks up controller faults that Windows tests miss.
I hope this helps.
I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍✨
Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Hi Kuroi,
I already did the diagnostics from the BIOS itself, and it didn't give me any errors at the time (even though the fans did randomly stop spinning during it). I tried a clean boot, which worked temporarily (about 6 hours) but now they stop spinning randomly again. There is no "Intel Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework" listed in my Device Manager. I've tried all kinds of things, it seems like it's some kind of issue that needs to be fixed from your end, probably exactly the same as this one: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Fans-are-not-working-properly-a...
Please give us some kind of fix for this issue. It's unreasonable that I can't use my laptop anymore because of HP's software, not because of any hardware defect. Could you send me some kind of patch file or something I can download to fix this on my system?
