When I opened my laptop earlier it made a loud popping sound which sounded like it came from the hinge. Also, when it's closed it looks like the space between the screen and the laptop is bigger on the left side, like the right side of the hinge is really slightly sticking out, I don't know if that started before or after the pop. I'm scared to keep closing it over in case that makes it worse but when I tried it it either does a slightly quieter pop or creaking noises and it feels harder to open. I'm worried in case I open it and it comes apart or something.
I've only had this a few weeks, I've taken great care of it, never dropped it or anything and it's not damaged any other way.

I have the same issue where it does this cracking sound from the hinges sometime when opening and sometimes when closing. However, when the laptop was first purchased the noise was never heard. It has never been dropped or sustained any damage whatsoever. My question would be since the person who first reported the problem was instructed to wait for a certified HP representative to contact them, how would I go about that?

It seems that the reason for the crackling sound is due to a design flaw that the edge of the cover would rub against the speaker if you are not opening from the center. Hence, the best thing would be to open from the center, but if even that creates the crackling sound, then you should send probably send a ticket to HP or request one of the helpful mods for assistance.
Currently im facing another issue where my headphones jack seems to have an issue, hoping someone can render their assistance regarding that.
