Omen 17-an012dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Lately my laptop is having performance issues probably related to the power source or the battery. Every time i start playing a heavy game, the laptop immediately starts acting like i'm unplugging and plugging the charger constantly.

I have joined a video so that you can have clearer understanding of my issue.

As you can see in the last part of my video, the battery icon keeps indicating that i'm unplugging and plugging the charger over and over again.

Please note that i have already cleaned dust out of my computer and changed its thermal pasting thinking that it might solve the issue but unfortunately it didn't.

I also tried running the laptop without its internal battery and everything was fine until i wanted to start playing a game which ended in an immediate and sudden shut down of the laptop.

I'm so confused, and it's making me re think my decision of buying an Omen laptop as it is only 3 years old and showing what might be a serious internal issue.

Will someone please help me figure out a way to solve this ?

Hello @Youomen,

This might be an issue with the AC adapter.

Try the Battery and AC adapter test in the HP UEFI Diagnostics.

  1. Turn off the laptop and remove all accessories
  2. Repeatedly press Esc upon startup
  3. Select F2 (System Diagnostics)
  4. Select the desired language
  5. Navigate to component tests
  6. Select Battery and AC adapter tests

Note that the above steps may vary depending on the configuration and some tests may not be available.

Hey Eddy,

I apologize for not being able to reply sooner. I also want to thank you for the time you took to suggest a solution. The problem might indeed be the AC adapter. So i went ahead and bought a new one (19.5V/11.8A). When I tried the test you suggested, both the new and the old AC adapters passed the test.

But performance wise I noticed that the new AC adapter stopped the battery from discharging while playing a game. Also, when I removed the battery this time, the computer ran smoothly and didn't shut off like before. But unfortunately that didn't solve the problem completely as I still have some performance issues in the form of stutters and heavy fps drops. Not like with the old AC adapter but like i will show you in this gameplay video i took.

Note that before all of this, the laptop could run the game smoothly with 60 fps on ultra settings. Now i'm having troubles reaching that on high settings even.

I have tried some old GPU drivers but apparently that's not the problem

I appreciate any sort of help or guidance.

Please help me! I had the same problem on HP OMEN 15, the power supply was continuously disconnected during heavy gaming.

Have you solved the problem, please help me fix it ! Thanks very much !! T_T

My laptop is HP OMEN 15, RTX 2070, using the HP 200W power supply.

This power supply runs fine on another laptop
