Yep, there seems to be something missing. But HP should know the missing part. Do you know with which SSD you want to replace the current one? I think an NVME would be great as they are multiple times faster than AHCI. The latest BIOS should support them as well.
NVME seems to be the next Generation of SSD and it looks like the HP Omen PRo does have an NVME SSD.
I personally think that HP did some tweaking of the MS SATA driver in the Recovery version. Remember Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 use the storahci, Windows 7 uses msahci.

Probably a Transcend, since I don't want to spend $400 on a Samsung m.2 SATA with an insane read/write speed that I'll never fully utilize.............unless my next DJ gigs are very generous to me 😛
The HP Omen 512GB actually uses the Samsung SSD you're interested in.

Just be a nice guy and your DJ gigs will be generous to you 😄
I didn't know that they used the NVME Version, i thought they used the AHCI Version of that drive and that only the Pro does have the NVME. But yes, that drive is expensive, nevertheless a Crucial or Transend costs money as well (i think 250-300€?). M2 SSD's are still rather expensive 😞

I can't guarantee being nice 😉
The 512GB version of the Omen has a read speed of about a gig, which lines up with the NVMe version. Since I live in the US, the Transcend is literally $190, and the 850 EVO m.2 is $10 cheaper than that.
btw the fan control isn't exactly working well in Windows 7. Also upgrading the firmware to F.09 (still my favorite IMO) causes the BIOS to turn off Legacy mode, meaning Windows 7 won't boot at all until you go back into the BIOS and turn on Legacy boot again. Still looking for good Nvidia drivers since BF3 stutters more frequently on the later drivers.

So it seems that 1gb is the maximum that we are able to get out of our omen?
Did you install the HP System Event Utility? I think that was the tool which fixed the bug under Windows 10, maybe it's the same under W7.

I did, still no luck. I've actually been gone for a night and the fan was still running as I came back, blowing cold air out the back.
& yes, 1GB/s read speeds is the max you're going to get out of the Omen, which is a limitation of its SATA connection and not necessarily a limitation of the parts you can buy. But to be perfectly honest with you, a basic SATA connection is enough. Unless you're doing intensive work (in that case you probably wouldn't have bought the Omen in the first place), you're not going to need something that can oversaturate a SATA 3 port like our current SSDs do. I just simply want to upgrade for the space.

The BIOS is up to date as well? There are other users which moved to Windows 7: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/Event-ID-129-storahci-followed-by-153-ca...
Maybe you can ask there, what kind of drivers he installed.
About the SSD, your argumentation makes sense and probably our SanDisk itself is pretty fast and solid (if there wouldn't be freezes everywhere). An Upgrade probabaly only makes sense, if you want more space.

I actually went from F.26 to F.09 because F.26 breaks the controls. If I try to turn on the volume after turning off the WiFi, it'll do the regular F function instead of the media function. Going back to F.09 (which turns off Legacy boot which in turn kills Windows 7 boot 'til you turn it back on) fixed the issue.
I actually had everything working fine 'til I did a Windows 7 important update. But I'm not going to worry about it to much until my recovery USB gets here. Seriously HP? $52 for "two day delivery" and it won't get here FOR ANOTHER WEEK?! 2 days =/= a week.
Again, I don't think it's a SanDisk issue. I think it's an HP firmware issue, and I think the firmware is only installed through HP and can only be re-installed through an official recovery media, that's originally included with your computer (but I deleted it by accident :P). I'm going to create 2 recoveries. One of the current Windows 7 setup, and then try the official one from the USB. If the official one works, then I'd recommend everyone using an official HP recovery, especially considering I LITERALLY didn't have that problem (even on Windows 10) until I did a clean install of Windows 8.1, so something in that official recovery gets deleted. If the issue still persists, it's HP's fault and they need to get off their lazy you-know-whats and fix it.

F.26 does break the controls? I think here it's working fine but maybe HP will give us a BIOS Update 😄
I deleted my Recovery Partition as well (by accident :(). As I have access to Dreamspark i never thought that it would be a problem... And no - i will not buy a $52 recovery USB form you. Just put the **bleep** "whatever you did to fix it" into an executable and give it to us. -.-'
Maybe you will find the missing "thing". It does seem HP is not able to find it.

Honestly it is your own fault if you didn't replicate the recovery like you're supposed to, and they tell you to, and give you a tool to do it, and Windows also gives you a tool to do it, and even if you didn't know how you could easily Google how to do it, and buy a dirt-cheap USB from Amazon and have it done for much less than $52................I'm just sayin' 😛
F.26 only breaks the controls on Windows 7, which it doesn't support in the first place. Actually NONE of the HP drivers support Windows 7 unless they're just generic Intel drivers, and even some of those don't support Windows 7. I will say I'm not moving unless I KNOW for a fact that recovery disk makes things better, and even then Windows 7 is better for DJing than Windows 8 is.
