I guess that there is indeed a difference between playing on battery power and playing while plugged in. I had to restart Windows so that I can start Metro normally again. It crashed one time but then seemed to work fine until I plugged in the laptop (which was around 20 minutes, since the laptop was already low). After around 3 miuntes from plugging in the laptop, the game crashed. The game opened again though when I tired launching it again, but only to crash withing 2 minutes. I tried this 3 more times.
I also noticed that the charging port light turned white while playing the game (Plugged in, not charging). But this happened before too, even when I first bought the laptop.
The other game that crashed was Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator 2.

Plug the charger in and as the laptop starts to power on, tap the F2 key to access the UEFI Diagnostics menu.
Go to Component tests > Power and run the tests for battery and power cord.
Just to make sure there isnt any errors that show up.
BTW, you want to always run games while plugged into the charger. The system will run more efficiently this way.

I had to restart windows to stop the game (Metro 2033) from crashing on startup. I played on battery power and the game crashed one time but then seemed to work fine until I plugged in the adapter (which was about 20 minutes because the battery was already low.)
Once I plugged in the adapter, the game laster for about 2 more minutes and then crashed. Strangely though, it didn't crash on startup like it did before, but instead kept crashing after about 2 minutes from when I start it.
I also noticed that the charging port light turned white (plugged in, not charging) while playing the game and a stayed this way a for a little bit after I closed the game. This happened before, though, even when I first bought the laptop.

You have ran the hardware component tests and it showed nothing.
Clean installed Windows and it continues.
Updated the graphics drivers and still continues.
Linux is installed and works but you arent taxing it with games and such like you are with Windows.
How long does it run before the crasheds occur?
The fact that its only a couple months since you purchased, you qualifiy for HP Support Warranty service.
I would contact them and do a warranty claim. There could be a hardware issue that the UEFI diagnostics is not finding.
