I had my pc sent to hp support 2 months ago, the only thing they did was just replacing the battery.
While playing games, the FPS count just suddenly drops to 4-10 from 50 bands. As soon as this happens, my gpu usage jumps up to 100% from 80s and this goes for 5mins minimum, and when i unplug and plug my computer again it just fixes itself but repeats the same issue again after 20-30 mins
I've gone through all the updates so please don't give me any ideas about how to upgrade my BIOS system or anything, I am in fact sure how to boot up the pc and upgrade BIOS and do all the necessary things by hand, these all have been done for 5-6 times already. I just want to get this done with.

@emrebk, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're experiencing FPS drops on your HP Victus 16-d1 gaming laptop, which could be due to power management settings or thermal throttling. Here are some steps to help address the problem:
Check Power Management Settings
- Ensure your laptop is plugged in while gaming. Gaming laptops often reduce performance on battery to conserve energy and prevent overheating.
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel:
- Go to Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings.
- Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance.
Optimize Windows Power Mode
- Set Windows Power Mode to Best Performance:
- Search for "Power Mode" in Windows settings and adjust it accordingly.
Monitor Thermal Throttling
- High GPU usage spikes and FPS drops often indicate overheating. Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check temperatures during gameplay.
- If overheating occurs:
- Clean your laptop's vents and fans.
- Consider using a cooling pad to improve airflow.
Update Graphics Drivers
- Ensure your NVIDIA drivers are up-to-date:
- Right-click on the desktop > NVIDIA Control Panel > Check for Updates.
Adjust Game Settings
- Lower demanding settings such as shadows, reflections, and lighting in games.
- Reduce the resolution or refresh rate if necessary to improve performance.
Close Background Processes
- Use Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to close unnecessary applications that might be consuming resources.
Test After Unplugging/Replugging
- The fact that unplugging and replugging temporarily resolves the issue suggests a potential hardware or power delivery problem:
- Check if the power adapter is functioning properly.
- Ensure you're using the original charger provided by HP.
Disable Battery Boost (if applicable)
- Some gaming laptops have a feature called Battery Boost that limits GPU performance to conserve battery life. Check your NVIDIA or AMD control panel settings and disable this feature if it's enabled.
BIOS Update
- Consider updating the BIOS, as this can sometimes resolve performance issues. You can check for updates through the HP Support Assistant.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
