Hi!
I have a problem with hp victus 15 with i5 13420H and rtx 4050. When I turn on the game i have 40-50 fps but after restarting my laptop i have stable 80 fps. It's pretty annoying and it doesn't always work. Temps of gpu and cpu are around 70-80, I also updated BIOS. What do you think is the problem?

Hi @Damian231
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for sharing the details — that kind of inconsistent performance can be frustrating, especially when you're expecting smooth gameplay from a capable system like yours.
Here are some steps that can help stabilize FPS without relying on a restart:
1. Check Background Processes
- Before launching your game, open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and look for any high CPU or disk usage from background apps.
- Disable unnecessary startup programs via the Startup tab.
2. Adjust Power Settings
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select High Performance or create a custom plan that prioritizes maximum performance.
- In Advanced Power Settings, ensure processor power management is set to 100% for both minimum and maximum states.
3. Update Graphics Drivers
- Use this official HP page to download the latest NVIDIA and Intel graphics drivers specific to your model.
- Avoid relying solely on Windows Update or GeForce Experience for driver updates — the manufacturer's version may include optimizations for your system.
4. Disable Integrated GPU (if applicable)
- Open NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings and set the preferred GPU to High-performance NVIDIA processor.
- You can also assign specific games to use the RTX 4050 under Program Settings.
5. Thermal Management
- Even though your temps are within range, thermal throttling can still occur intermittently. Ensure vents are clear and consider using a cooling pad.
- You can also check fan settings in the BIOS or system utility software to ensure optimal cooling during gaming.
6. Clean Boot Test
- Perform a clean boot to rule out third-party software conflicts:
- Type msconfig in the Start menu, go to Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
- Restart and test the game performance.
7. Game Mode and GPU Scheduling
- Enable Game Mode in Windows Settings.
- Go to System > Display > Graphics Settings and enable Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling if supported.
If the issue persists even after these steps, feel free to share whether the FPS drop happens consistently across titles. I’ll help you dig deeper.
