I bought a laptop about a year ago, the first 3 months everything was fine. But then there was one important problem, in some games the laptop was shutting down, and at random moments, it could shut down in 20 seconds after starting the game, and it could work for 3 hours and then shut down. I went to the Internet for a solution, where I learned that it may be related to temperatures, then started the game and began to track the temperature, but they were normal, somewhere around 70-80 degrees. Then I found information that it is related to drivers, updated all possible drivers, started, the problem did not disappear, then cleaned and blew the laptop from dust and changed the thermal paste, did not help. I tried rolling back the laptop to system settings, put win 10 nothing helped…
I noticed that if you limit the mode of the laptop (put it on balanced via omen hub) sometimes can extend the time up to an hour, but it does not work every time....
Please help

Hi @RoadNews,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you've already taken several steps to troubleshoot the issue with your HP Omen 16 laptop shutting down during gaming, but the problem persists. Let's explore some additional steps you can take.
Check Event Viewer:
- Go to the Event Viewer on your laptop (you can find it by searching in the Start menu).
- Look for any critical errors or warnings around the time your laptop shuts down. This might provide more information about the cause of the shutdown.
Power Settings:
- Ensure your laptop is not set to shut down on critical battery levels. Adjust power settings in Windows to prevent automatic shutdown due to low battery.
BIOS/UEFI Update:
- Check if there are any BIOS/UEFI updates available for your laptop on the HP website. Sometimes, firmware updates can address issues related to system stability.
Check for Overheating:
- Although you mentioned monitoring temperatures, it's worth checking again. Use third-party software like HWMonitor to monitor CPU and GPU temperatures during gaming. Ensure that there are no sudden spikes that could lead to overheating.
GPU/CPU Stress Testing:
- Use stress testing tools like FurMark for GPU and Prime95 for CPU to see if your system is stable under heavy load. This can help identify if the issue is related to hardware instability.
Check for Background Processes:
- Make sure there are no unnecessary background processes consuming resources while gaming. Close any unnecessary applications running in the background.
Memory Test:
- Perform a memory (RAM) test using Windows Memory Diagnostic or a third-party tool. Faulty RAM can sometimes cause unexpected shutdowns.
Clean Windows Install:
- If all else fails, consider doing a clean Windows installation. This ensures that there are no software conflicts or issues causing the shutdowns.
Remember to back up important data before performing any major changes or reinstallations.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Is it the 2023 model ? Than it could be faulty sensor connector since every omen 16 2023 unit is faulty with this connector. You can disconnect the sensor and everything will work again expect your laptop wont go into sleep hibernation while closing the lid ho design a bad motherboard
