Hello I recently bought a new OMEN 2025 model, I used it for few days now and, for now, I only had a single problem with the Discord app. Everytime I open it, after a few seconds, the computer stop working (I can hear people talking on discord), the screen becomes all black , I can only see the part of the screen not covered by the Discord window.
It seems completely blocked and it forces me to shut it down with the button and restart it.
It is the only problem I faced, should I worry about something related to hardware/software bugs?
All the newest drives are installed and Windows is updated.
Also the BIOS is updated.

@David9375, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
The issue with your OMEN 16-ap0006sl freezing when using the Discord app appears to be software-related, likely tied to GPU acceleration or overlay conflicts.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the issue:
Disable Hardware Acceleration in Discord
- Open Discord (quickly before it freezes).
- Go to User Settings (gear icon at the bottom).
- Navigate to Advanced.
- Toggle Hardware Acceleration to Off.
- Restart Discord.
Disable Discord Overlay
- In User Settings, go to Game Overlay.
- Toggle “Enable in-game overlay” to Off.
- Restart your system.
Update Graphics Drivers (Manually)
Even if HP Support Assistant says drivers are up to date, manually installing the latest drivers from the GPU manufacturer can help:
- For NVIDIA GPU: NVIDIA Driver Downloads
- For Intel GPU: Intel Driver & Support Assistant
Make sure to perform a clean installation during the driver update.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
To rule out hardware issues:
- Turn off your laptop.
- Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
- Run System Tests > Extensive Test.
Check for Discord Beta or Canary Issues
If you're using Discord Canary or PTB, switch to the stable version. Uninstall Discord completely and reinstall from the official site.
Create a New Windows User Profile
Sometimes, user profile corruption can cause app-specific issues:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
- Add a new local user.
- Log in with the new user and test Discord.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
