Problem

Received a HP Omen 15 laptop from HP Store mid September 2021 and everything functions fine except the audio input, I have sound from speakers and headphones, just no recording. It detects the device, has no issues with any recording device- whether it be an external one; tried Bluetooth, USB and 3.5mm or the internal microphone array. However, none of them pick up audio, external ones are not faulty as work fine on desktop pc and other laptops. I have a sneaking suspicion its a faulty sound card but want to try all software related fixes before requesting a replacement.

Its specs

       https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c07649977

It has following ports

1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate (DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge);

1 SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate (HP Sleep and Charge);

2 SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate;

1 Mini DisplayPort™;

1 HDMI 2.1;

1 RJ-45;

1 AC smart pin;

1 headphone/microphone combo

It does not have a stand alone microphone. Have you tried a headset ? You should be able to use 2 microphones next to the camera on the top of its screen.

Which software do you use to record sound ?

Regards.

Hi Banhien,

Recording software used- Microsoft's default voice recorder, Microsoft teams, Discord and OBS Studios.

However, the main issue stems from inside the Recording tab in Sounds. The microphones don't pick up any level. (Small green bars on right side).

The built-in microphone array is AMD supported.

I have also tried:

Standalone mics, headsets with in-built mics and the use of a sound DAC between, using both USB and 3.5mm jack, (some just USB, some just 3.5mm and some days utilising both along with splitter for 3.5mm)

Bluetooth earbuds that have an in-built mic,

All of which work fine with my desktop PC and various other laptops I have.
