Hi there!

So I went to turn on my laptop last night, however in doing so I was met with a black screen, no fan movement, but instead just a blinking power button.

The power button will light up for about 5 seconds and then stop for about 3, then repeat this continuously.

I've tried hard resetting the laptop but this doesn't work - has anyone else had this problem, and if so is there a fix that won't screw me over financially just before Xmas? 😞

I've tried to find out more online, and it looks like it might be a problem with the motherboard? I don't have a huge knowledge of computers so I'm really hoping this sounds more scary than it actually is! Haha!

Any help on this will really help, I use this laptop for my digital art work (as well as gaming!) so I really need it fixed if possible asap!

Thanks

Hello @Shaung90

I hope you are still under warranty? The beep/blink code indicates that the embedded controller has timed out waiting for the bios. That means a motherboard issue. The unit needs to be sent in for repairs.

On rare occasion, one person got it working by pulling the cmos coin battery to do a reset. But that usually doesnt work in this case.

Oh no! I'm not still under warranty 😞

Is this sort of fix usually expensive? It sounds it haha

Thanks for the info though, I appreciate it, I'll be getting in touch with HP tomorrow to see what can be done

You would have to take it to a quailified repair shop for an evaluation.

IF you need a new motherboard, you might as well buy another laptop.

Im sorry.

ITs times like these a guy wishes he bought the extended warranty.

Darned if you do, darned if you dont.

Oh no, that is not good!

So is everything I had on there lost? I have loads of work on there    😮

Thanks for letting me know, I really appreciate it!

Not neccesarily. The hard drive can be pulled and the data extracted fairly easily for a shop.

Of you can try doing it yourself but will need access to another computer and adapters.

Your work data will still be in tacked, if its only a Motherboard failure. 🙂
