Hi,

i've gone through all the newsboards for suggestions with no luck.

My backlit keyboard dont light up with fn + F4. This happened after re-installing Win10.

All the drivers are up to date. This seems like a common problem for this model.

Any suggestions? Help and suggestions appreciated.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (Refer to the removable and sealed battery)
BIOS default:(do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and    Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you. Something I've not tried before. Unfortunately didn't work.

I reset the laptop with the battery instructions. And followed the BIOS steps.
No luck.

I think it could b a software problem as it worked, and only started after a ne Win10 install.

It is a pity HP don't have software specifically dealing with this as many people have this problem with searches.

Any new ideas?

Thank you for posting back.

The last thing I can suggest try and restore the OS back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.  The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

I tried those steps. No luck.

Something i failed to mention. When this problem started, I replaced the internal old battery with a new one at the same time I re-installed Windows. So not sure if the new battery have something to do with it.

FN + F key...
F1 (Increase monitor light working) F2 (decrease monitor light working)  F3 (Changes monitor input working) F4 (ONLY Function key not working) F5 (Mute)
