OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-xf0000 (758R3AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello there.

I have wired and wireless external keyboards at my disposition. I wouldn't like to open the lid of the laptop every time I needed to power it on. This way I will save some hinge loosening. Is there a way to power the laptop using external keyboard? I looked in the BIOS settings and didn't see any "Power on by PS2/Keyboard" option.

Thank you very much for any help.

Thanks for the thoughtful question—and I completely get where you're coming from. Preserving the hinge on a premium device like the OMEN 16-xf0000 is a smart move.

Unfortunately, HP’s OMEN laptops, including your model, do not currently support powering on via external USB or wireless keyboards. This feature—often labeled as “Power on by keyboard” or “Wake on USB”—is typically found in desktop BIOS settings or select business-class laptops, but it’s not available in the BIOS of most HP gaming laptops.

However, there might be alternative solutions you can consider:

Use Wake-on-LAN (WOL): If you are connected to a network, you can configure the laptop to power on using Wake-on-LAN. This would require your wireless or wired network to send a specific signal to wake the device.

Use a Docking Station: Some docking stations come with power buttons that can be used to power on the connected laptop without needing to open the lid.

External Devices with Built-in Power: Certain external devices such as monitors or docking stations sometimes provide additional power-on functionality.

For now, the most straightforward solution would be to continue using the power button on the laptop itself. This generally helps avoid any issues with potential misconfigurations.
