Omen 15-5001na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Omen 15-5001na. I bought a Samsung EVO 970 SSD as a replacement upgrade for my original broken SSD. However, it is not recognized, despite updating to latest BIOS v46. Having trawled through hours of posts here I've concluded there are compatibility issues with many SSD, even when the SSD apparently meets the specifications described in the User Manual.

This post specifically references the issue I'm having:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Can-I-upgrade-my-SSD-to-Samsun...

I'm not sure there are any PCIe type SSD available to buy, that work so I'll guess I'll have to 'upgrade' to a SATA. I have narrowed down to 5 options:

1. https://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/hp-omen-15-5001na/CT11439658

Crucial MX500 3D NAND SATA

2. https://www.wd.com/en-gb/products/internal-ssd/wd-blue-3d-nand-sata-ssd.html#WDS500G2B0B

WD BLUE 3D NAND SATA SSD

3. https://www.samsung.com/uk/memory-storage/860-evo-sata-3-m-2-ssd/MZ-N6E500BW/

Samsung EVO 860 SATA

4. https://www.kingston.com/en/ssd/consumer/SA1000M8

Kingston A1000 - this is the only PCIe version I think might work. It also has the 3 prong form on the card (M & B), as my original 256GB PCIe card has but I read another post it wasn't working!

5. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ADATA-asu800ns38-1tt-c-Serial-Solid/dp/B01MR7FVM9/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=ASU80...

I'm not sure about the WD. I read mixed success with the EVO 860 and compatibility issue with the A1000.

That leaves Crucial or ADATA. One forum member went for ADATA SU800 and didn't reply that it did not work.

Crucial guarantee compatibility on their website, so that may be my best option!

Can anyone confirm an M.2 SSD (SATA or PCIe) that they are aware has been successfully installed in a similar device, and is a current model available to purchase today?! Alternatively, what are thoughts on my safest bet?

Hello @munrorunner

I have never heard a report back on a working M.2 drive replacement for the old Omen 5000 series. In fact most of the time, people get an answer for anything and we never hear from them again. Guess its human nature?

My opinion, if you're having issues with an NVMe ssd not getting recognized, go for the Crucial because they "guarantee" them to work. I have not heard complaints of them and their guarantees, so I always recommend them.

If you do, please let us know the results.

Hello @Photoray002

I was able to successfully install using Crucial MX500 SATA (1TB version). So I've lost some PCIe speed but gained my device back and gained an additional 750GB. Thanks for your help.
