OMEN 15-en0000 Laptop PC (8WK04AV)

SPECS:

Laptop : HP OMEN 15-en0000

Processor : AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics

OS : Windows 11 Home Version 23H2

Recently my trackpad stopped working in the Windows environment, yet it does work in the bios. I can still operate the system with an USB mouse, but it does not have my preference.

I've already taken various steps to try to resolve the issue, but the problem doesn't seem to disappear.

- Updated all the drivers and general system.

- Complete factory reset of the computer.

- Performed functional component test in the boot menu, and they passed there with the trackpad being used.

Anyone has any suggestions?

Hi @CStijlaart,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already gone through quite a few troubleshooting steps, which is great for narrowing down the issue. Since the trackpad works in the BIOS but not in the Windows environment, it's likely a software-related problem rather than a hardware one.

Here are a few more steps you can try.

  • Device Manager Check: Open Device Manager in Windows and look for any errors or warnings related to the trackpad or any other input devices. Right-click on the trackpad device and select "Uninstall device," then restart your computer to let Windows reinstall the drivers automatically.
  • BIOS/UEFI Update: Check if there are any BIOS or UEFI updates available for your HP OMEN 15 laptop. Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve compatibility issues with hardware components.
  • System File Checker (SFC) Scan: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command "sfc /scannow" to scan for and repair any corrupted system files that may be affecting the trackpad functionality.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is fully up-to-date. Sometimes, Microsoft releases patches or updates that address specific hardware compatibility issues.
  • Driver Rollback: If the trackpad issue started after a recent driver update, you can try rolling back to the previous driver version to see if that resolves the problem. This can be done through Device Manager by right-clicking on the trackpad device, selecting "Properties," then navigating to the "Driver" tab and choosing "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.
  • System Restore: If you have a system restore point created before the trackpad issue occurred, you can try restoring your system to that point to see if it resolves the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hey there! Thank you for the response.

I've tried your solutions and came to the following :

- Device Manager showed no errors or warnings for anything. Uninstalling the device and restarting my laptop resulted in no difference.

- BIOS is up to date.

- SFC returns no problems.

- Windows is completely up-to-date, and so are the optional drivers.

- There was no option to rollback the driver

- There are no System restore points available prior to the problem occurring.

So unfortunately the solutions didn't not result into the trackpad working again..

EDIT : I opened up my laptop to check the connections to be sure. plugged the trackpad out and in again. Solved the problem for a period in time, trackpad was useable in windows again but stopped working after some time.
