Does your laptop battery charge only when the laptop is turned off? Click here to view the solution

My hp victus 16 s0095AX screen turns on and off while gaming on power source. Besides the screen, the keyboard lightning also appears to do the same, flickering when the screen turns off. However, the laptop seems to continue running, since what I type during the off screen gets logged. The light of the power button (which usually only turns off when the laptop goes to sleep/hibernate/turns off) also flickers when the problem happens

It started about 1 week ago, being fairly uncommon, and after happening once or twice it stopped, and didn't repeat during the gaming session. But it kept getting a little worse, and yesterday exponentially worse, now it forces me to close any program for it to stop. Still can use the laptop fine when browsing/watching videos

The laptop is fairly new, with less than a year since purchased. Ive updated every driver, graphic driver (nvidia gpu) available to this date but nothing seems to work. I also have always been using a cooling pad while using the laptop.

I don't know if it's hardware, or drivers, so please give me some suggestions of what to do. The laptop is still on warranty, but I'd prefer to find a solution that doesn't require returning it

I have excatly the same problem. Mine is Victus 16-r0xxx. I bought it one and a half year ago.

The problem started around one week ago. It happens randomly, sometimes during gaming, sometimes during light tasks such as browsing.

I have updated BIOS, graphic driver (NVIDIA) and Windows to the lastest version. I did hardware diagnosis, the result says everthing is fine. I did power-reset. But the problem is still there.

Has someone any glue what happen? I don't trust myself to open the device for checking the power connection or hardware.

Hey everyone, thank you for your messages.

Unfortunately no one from HP replied, so I decided to return it to the store I bought it. They analyzed and suspect it's hardware problem, so it was sent to warranty.

I'll update when I have news from the warranty process, or any diagnostic of the problem

Update:

The laptop went to warranty, and they ended up replacing the motherboard. I was not given a reason to what caused the problem.

However, after checking some Reddit posts, I found that some HP OMEN models has a similar problem in the past, caused by the sensor that detects if the lid is closed malfunctioning when temperature increases. So, even when the laptop is around 50°C, a fairly low temperature when running medium/heavy workloads, it's enough for the sensor to activate, and send a signal for the laptop to enter sleep mode or hibernation mode.

So, if the problem persists, go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > System Settings and change what happens when lid is closed to "Do Nothing", and see if it resolves the problem.

However, if you're still under warranty, maybe the best will be to send it back for a proper hardware fix

Thank you for the update.

That confirms my suspicion. When that problem occurred, my events viewer showed an information saying "system switched in standby mode. Reason: lid."

I have tried to change the power setting but it didn't help.

So I sent my laptop to warranty two days ago, am waiting for the result.

I wonder if replacing motherboard can help?

My laptop is back from warranty, ended up replacing motherboard too. I haven't test it yet.

I just found quite a lot of posts about this particular issue of certain OMEN model, especially 2023 OMEN 16.

I have an HP Victus 16-s0175ng
, and both I and a friend (who also has the same model) are experiencing the exact same problem. In my case, the issue started about 1 year and 3 weeks after I bought it, so the warranty has already expired.
I’m not sure what to do now.

Consider trying what I've been reported that worked with Omen laptops:  disable the laptop shutting down screen when the lid is closed. If the problem is being caused by the sensor triggering and thinking the laptop is closed, it will no longer trigger the laptop to enter in sleep/hibernate.

You can also try to take it to some hardware repair, see if they recognize the sensor and can test to see if that's the cause. Since you no longer have warranty, it might be the best option,

Good luck!
