There have been other posts with similar problems that didn't publicly show a solution like
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/video-dxgkrnl-fatal-error/td-p/775625...
and
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Notebooks/Video-Dxg-Krnl-fatal-error-bsod/m-p/8854429
And they pretty well summarize the problem. I've been having it since 2023 and have tried fixing it on my own.
I've updated the Nvidia and AMD gpu drivers, as well as reverted them to the HP provided drivers several times, uninstalling with DDU. I've run sfc /scannow and checkhealth tests. I've updated and reverted the BIOS.
Crashing is usually when playing GPU heavy games or benchmarks but also always occurs if the laptop idles for enough time.
Edit: Another one with the same problem this time not even a laptop https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/HP-Omen-45L-Desktop-frequent-VIDEO-DXG...

Hi @adn0x0, Welcome to HP Support Community!
We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊
We understand that you are facing VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR BSOD on the OMEN 15-en1000 laptop.
Fix for VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR BSOD
1. Clean Reinstall GPU Drivers
Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to fully remove both AMD and NVIDIA drivers:
- Boot into Safe Mode.
- Run DDU to uninstall AMD and NVIDIA drivers.
- Reboot and install:
- AMD GPU driver from HP: OMEN 15-en1000 Drivers
- NVIDIA Studio Driver v555.85 from NVIDIA Studio Drivers (avoid Game Ready drivers for stability)
2. Disable Fast Startup
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup
3. BIOS Update and Reset
- Update BIOS from HP: BIOS for OMEN 15-en1000
- After update, enter BIOS (F10 on boot) → Load Setup Defaults
4. Power Management Tweaks
- In Device Manager, under Display Adapters, right-click each GPU → Properties > Power Management → Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
- In Power Options, set plan to High Performance
- Under PCI Express > Link State Power Management, set to Off
5. Monitor Thermals
- Use tools like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check temps
- Clean vents and consider repasting if temps exceed 90°C
6. Prevent Idle Crashes
- Set Sleep to Never in Power Options
- Disable Display Off timer
- Use a tool like Don't Sleep to prevent idle states temporarily
7. Optional: Underclock GPU
- Use MSI Afterburner to slightly reduce GPU core clock and voltage
- This can help stabilize the system if the issue is related to aggressive GPU boost behavior
