Hi,

This issue has been posted before https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Notebooks/WSL-2-Enabling-Virtual-Machine-Platform-feature-cause... and ignored. It looks like a BIOS update can fix it https://www.reddit.com/r/XMG_gg/comments/kb1p9i/solution_for_hyperv_and_wsl2_issues_on_various/ . Any chance of you providing the same HP?

Regards

Kev

HP has released the F13 BIOS update officially. It can be downloaded from their driver/support website.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/omen-15-en0000-laptop-pc-series/32827270/...

I installed it and everything seems to be working fine.

Changelog:

- Provides support for Windows 20H2.

- Provides support for new display panels.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks but that doesn't help. I regularly keep my system up-to-date and all have latest the updates including the latest bios. I think engineering needs to see this thread. Regards.

Hi Echo_Lake!

I believe that @Kevinha was talking about escalating this issue to the Level 3 support tier, it is not something that could be easily fixed remotely, AFAIK.

Anyway, it seems that a lot of people are getting a hard time using the HP's Ryzen chipset-based computer, a.k.a. Omen 15-en0xxx and a Windows Feature called 'Virtual Machine Platform'.

There's a whole thread of discussion below, titled Enabling 'Virtual Machine Platform' feature causes Realtek Gaming Gbe Family Controller driver to fail to load

 https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/5911

My configuration as follows:

Windows 10 Home - build 19041.746

HP OMEN Laptop 15-en0xxx - with latest BIOS F.07 Rev.A

Realtek Gaming Gbe Family Controller - Driver 10.45.928.2020

As end-users, we are unable to pin-point the real culprit here.

Microsoft and their 'Virtual Machine Platform'?

Is it the Realtek chipset/controller?

AMD with their Ryzen 4800H arch?

We just want things running all together, and a fix, or a good point to the right direction. 😃

Thanks in advance for your time. Let me know if you need further details.

Sincerely,

Daniel

Same problem here. I noticed that when i booted in troubleshooting mode in windows, the ethernet network card worked fine. But in normal mode it's blocked with code 48.

@Echo_Lake

Hello!

This is a serious issue and affects many users. Some other HP models were reported to have similar problems (various BSODs and problems with ethernet controller when AMD-V/Virtual Machine Platform is enabled) and the recently released F.20 BIOS update for the Pavilion 15-ec1xxx seems to target some (all?) of these issues and fixes them. Can you confirm whether a similar fix is being worked on for the OMEN 15-en0xxx and possibly other effected ryzen models too?

I also have this issue for my OMEN 15-en0xxx

@Echo_Lake

It's worth noting this is not just a problem with the Intel ax models but those with realtek networking hardware also. This is not a driver issue it's a bios issue.

This seems to be an issue that other vendors have fixed with BIOS updates as the problem seems related to UMA or the reserved memory mapping from what I can tell.

HP just seem to be ignoring this and offering explanations like "we won't fix this as virtualization platform is not part of Windows Home that comes with the laptop" well if they bothered to take the time they would realise virtualization platform is very much an available feature of Windows Home.

We are not all only using your laptops for gaming we use them for work and productivity also.

If anyone from support us reading this please escalate this issue as far up the chain as possible. Any support engineer at HP worth their salt will understand the issue and agree to fix it. 5 minutes googling what other manufacturers have done will tell you everything you need to know.

I just bought my laptop and I am holding out for HP to fix this. But if it's not soon the laptop will be being returned and it will be the last HP laptop I buy

That doesn't help, in the discussions are only unanswered threads to this topic like this one...
The support agent I talked to was almost offensive after I asked the question and said that virtualization is not officially supported by the model and they don't WANT to help, even if every component in the system, the BIOS and Windows Home support the feature by default.
If it is not supported don't put the option in the BIOS and communicate it clearly to your costumers, because many of them have problems like this.

It is clearly a bug in the BIOS, which can only be fixed with an official BIOS update.
