Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My webcam is no longer being detected by my laptop. I open the camera app, and there is an error note saying no camera detected.

I've tried the following,

- Used windows troubleshooter- same error

- I reset the PC- same error

- Device manager has no device installed as camera, so I can't update driver

- Looked for Hp webcam driver online but I cannot find any.

- Used HP support assistant- still no drivers found- installed all available updates. And yet the error.

- Contacted Windows support- they looked for solutions and finally looked for camera driver only to realize that HP doesn't have a driver for the webcam and suggested that I contact HP for drivers.

This error most likely occurred after Windows update, although I can't be certain. This laptop had Win 11 preinstalled.

Any solutions?

Hi @tej27,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand that your laptop webcam is not being detected, no driver is listed in Device Manager, and you’re unable to find a driver on the HP website. Let’s try a few steps to get it working again:

Check Privacy Settings

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.

Make sure "Camera access for this device" and "Allow apps to access your camera" are both turned on.

Show Hidden Devices in Device Manager

Press Win + X > Device Manager.

Click View > Show hidden devices.

Expand imaging devices or cameras.

If you see your webcam (possibly greyed out), right-click and select Enable or Uninstall device, then restart the laptop.

Run Hardware Scan

Download and run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows from HP Support.

Perform a System Test > Webcam Test to check if the hardware is detected.

Update or Roll Back Windows Update

Since you mentioned this started after a Windows update, try:

Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates.

Roll back the most recent update and check if the webcam is detected.

BIOS & Chipset Update

Visit the HP Software and Drivers page for your laptop model.

Download and install the latest BIOS update and chipset drivers.

Restart and check if the camera reappears.

Check BIOS Settings

Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS.

Look for Integrated Camera or Webcam under System Configuration.

Ensure it is enabled. Save and exit.

I hope this helps.

Hello Kuroi_Kenshi, thank you for assisting.

I tried all of the suggested methods but the camera issue persists.

1. Check Privacy Settings-  All access is allowed

2. Show Hidden Devices in Device Manager- Expanded all and checked, can't find the webcam

3.Run Hardware Scan- Ran the scan, no issues detected.

4. Update or Roll Back Windows Update- I installed available updates; tried rolling back but there is no option for it. Hence I tried resetting the pc, yet there is no change.

5. BIOS & Chipset Update- Updated all drivers and bios, no more updates available on HP for my system

6. Check BIOS Settings- There is no option like webcam or camera under system config for my system.

Hi,

Thanks so much for coming back with the details, and I really appreciate you carefully going through every step. Since you’ve already tried privacy checks, BIOS updates, resets, hidden devices, and HP hardware diagnostics without success, let’s move a little deeper.

Here are the next steps to narrow it down:

1. Confirm hardware detection at the system level

Press Win + X → Device Manager → Action → Scan for hardware changes.

Expand System devices and USB Controllers. If your webcam is truly not showing under Cameras/Imaging devices but could appear as an “Unknown USB device,” that points to a driver/hardware bridge issue.

2. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics (outside Windows)

Shut down the laptop completely.

Power it on and immediately press Esc repeatedly → choose F2 (HP Diagnostics).

Go to Component Tests → Camera.

If the test runs and passes, the camera is physically fine but Windows isn’t enumerating it. If it fails or the option doesn’t exist, that’s a stronger sign of hardware failure/disconnection.

I hope this helps.

Hello Kuroi_Kenshi

Yes, thank you for your support as well.

I tried both of your methods, and the Webcam is nowhere to be found.

1. I checked the USB devices in Device manager, but I can't find anything like webcam or imaging device.

2. System diagnostic tool has no option for webcam test.

Thank you.
