HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec0104ax
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm using HP Pavilion Gaming-15-ec0104ax laptop. The actual issue is when I plug in the charger during gaming , the charging actually stops for a second and charges again. This cause the issue frame droping during gameplay and it's hard to continue playing. Will it be the charger or DC port haivng issue in this scenario or the battery issue ?

Hi @J0nes11,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You're using the HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec0104ax and experiencing a momentary drop in charging when plugging in the charger during gameplay, which causes frame drops and gameplay disruption. I understand how frustrating this can be, especially when performance matters most while gaming.

Let’s try a few steps to try and fix the issue.

1. Charger or Power Adapter Issue

  • If the charger can't supply enough power during high-load scenarios (like gaming), it may momentarily cut out.
  • Check: Is your charger the original 150W HP adapter? If not, a lower-wattage adapter could be the issue.

2. DC Jack (Charging Port) Loose or Faulty

  • A loose or worn-out DC port can cause intermittent power delivery.
  • Check: Wiggle the charger gently while plugged in — if the charging light flickers, the port may be loose.

3. Battery Health Degradation

  • A degraded battery may not handle power transitions well.
  • Check battery health:
    • Press Windows + X → Windows Terminal (Admin) → run:
    • powercfg /batteryreport
    • Open the generated HTML file and check Design Capacity vs Full Charge Capacity.

4. Power Management Settings

  • Windows or HP software may be switching power modes dynamically.
  • Fix:
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
    • Set to High Performance or Ultimate Performance.
    • Disable USB selective suspend and Processor power management > Minimum processor state to 100%.

5. BIOS or Firmware Bug

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
