I got this laptop 7 days ago, 17.10.2024. First this laptop was getting pretty good fps until I had a lot of bloatware in my laptop. I was having fun with this. Now I feel input delay and input lag. I reseted my windows with USB stick to get rid of most bloatware that came with my laptop. Im playing cpu intensive game that gives gpu less work but I want high fps but laptop cant keep up with the game. I5 12450h and rtx 2050 is good with most of the games but gta 5 and fortnite wont run well, like gta 5 online gets 30-50fps but fortnite gets 120-160fps but feels that there is input lag and input delay. I optimized my laptop but I wont get much fps that I expected. Fps drops are little annoying. Someone help me.

Check the SSD/HDD Health:
- Use tools like CrystalDiskInfo to check the health of your SSD/HDD. A failing drive can lead to performance issues.
Limit Background Services and Processes:
- Use Windows' msconfig to limit the number of background services and processes. Disable services that are non-essential for your use.
Clean the Laptop Internally:
- Dust buildup inside the laptop can impede airflow. If comfortable, consider opening it up to clean the fans and vents. If not, a professional cleaning might be necessary.
Use a Wired Mouse:
- If you’re experiencing input lag, try switching to a wired mouse to eliminate any potential wireless latency.
Check Your Mouse Settings:
- In your mouse settings, ensure that pointer precision is turned off and adjust the polling rate (if possible) for optimal performance.
Look for Background Updates:
- Ensure that there are no ongoing updates (Windows updates, game updates, etc.) that might be consuming resources.
By going through these advanced troubleshooting steps, you should be able to mitigate input lag, high RAM usage, and FPS drops on your Victus by HP gaming laptop. Monitor performance closely after each change to identify what might have the most significant impact.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Allupal,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re experiencing multiple performance issues with your Victus by HP gaming laptop, even after trying to reset and optimize it. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and improve performance, particularly for CPU-intensive games.
Check Background Processes
- Task Manager: Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any processes that may be consuming a lot of CPU or RAM. If you find any unnecessary applications running in the background, consider closing them.
Update Drivers
- Graphics Drivers: Make sure your NVIDIA graphics drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the NVIDIA website or use the GeForce Experience app.
- Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows is fully updated as well, as updates can include important performance enhancements.
Power Settings
- Performance Mode: Set your laptop to Performance mode. You can do this by going to Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings and selecting the High Performance plan.
- NVIDIA Control Panel: Right-click on your desktop, select NVIDIA Control Panel, go to Manage 3D settings, and set the preferred graphics processor to the NVIDIA GPU for all programs.
Game Settings
- Graphics Settings: Lower the graphics settings in the games you’re playing (GTA 5 and Fortnite). Try lowering the resolution, reducing texture quality, and turning off any unnecessary effects.
- Frame Rate Limiting: Ensure that V-Sync or frame rate limiting settings are set appropriately to reduce input lag.5. Adjust Game and System Settings
- Disable Game Mode: Sometimes, Windows Game Mode can cause input lag. You can disable it by going to Settings > Gaming > Game Mode and turning it off.
- Disable Background Apps: Turn off unnecessary background apps that can slow down performance. Go to Settings > Privacy > Background apps and disable those you don’t need.
Check Thermal Performance
- Cooling: Make sure your laptop isn’t overheating, as thermal throttling can lead to FPS drops. Ensure the fans are working properly and the vents are clear of dust.
- Cooling Pad: Consider using a cooling pad if you notice the laptop gets excessively warm during gaming sessions.
RAM Management
- Memory Usage: Check your RAM usage in Task Manager. If it's consistently high, consider closing background applications or processes that use significant RAM.
- Increase Virtual Memory: If you’re running out of RAM, you can increase your virtual memory (paging file). Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Performance settings > Advanced tab and change the virtual memory settings.

Reinstalling Games
- If issues persist with specific games, consider reinstalling them to ensure there are no corrupted files.
System Performance Tools
- Use performance optimization tools (like CCleaner) to clean up unnecessary files and manage startup programs.
Check for Malware
- Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or any trusted antivirus software to rule out malware that may be consuming resources.
By following these steps, you should be able to address the input lag, high RAM usage, and FPS drops you’re experiencing.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Allupal,
Thank you for your response,
It sounds like you’ve already taken many initial troubleshooting steps, but there may be more advanced methods to address the input lag, high RAM usage, and FPS drops on your Victus by HP gaming laptop. Here are some additional suggestions to consider.
Disable Hardware Acceleration in Applications:
- Some applications, like browsers and communication tools (Discord, etc.), may have hardware acceleration settings that can impact performance. Disable hardware acceleration in these applications to see if it helps.
Adjust NVIDIA Control Panel Settings:
- In the NVIDIA Control Panel, navigate to Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings. Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance and Texture Filtering Quality to High Performance.
Use the NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency Mode:
- In supported games, enable NVIDIA Reflex to reduce input latency. This option can usually be found in the game settings under graphics or performance options.
Game-Specific Optimizations:
- Look for game-specific optimization guides for GTA 5 and Fortnite. Sometimes specific settings can be tweaked to improve performance without sacrificing much visual quality.
Update BIOS:
- Check the HP support site for your laptop model to see if there is a BIOS update available. Sometimes BIOS updates can improve hardware compatibility and performance.
Monitor System Temperatures:
- Use software like HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check the temperatures of your CPU and GPU during gaming. If they're running too hot, consider reapplying thermal paste or using a cooling pad.
Adjust In-Game Settings:
- Lower the resolution or use a resolution scale (like 90% of native resolution) to see if performance improves. Experiment with settings like shadow quality, anti-aliasing, and draw distance.
Check for Resource-Intensive Processes:
- In Task Manager, go to the Startup tab and disable non-essential startup programs that could be consuming resources.
Optimize Windows for Gaming:
- Consider disabling unnecessary Windows services. You can do this by typing msconfig in the Run dialog (Win + R), navigating to the Services tab, and checking Hide all Microsoft services. Disable any unnecessary services that are not critical for gaming.
Test Different Power Adapters:
- Sometimes, using a different power adapter can impact performance. If you have access to another compatible adapter, test it to see if it changes the performance.
