OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-wf1000 (8X3Y6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased this hp omen 16 last year around June for a price of 150k Rs and after only 2 months its touchpad  acting crazy like moving itself uncontrollably and clicking continuously, double clicking automatically I complained about it to HP support and they sent me an engineer the engineer then open my pc and found a faulty wire of the touchpad I don't what he did but it resolved my issue but about 10 days ago the touchpad again started behaving like that again but it was very very small fluctuations and no clicks but about 5 days ago it started acting crazy again now when I tried to  contact HP services like I did before there is no answer I am trying to get help since past 3 days but there is no response from HP . I was going for an ACER laptop but I trusted HP and bought this one, now it started giving me issues and the touchpad one is one of them. Some keyboard  buttons are also not well made and are popping out like it is some kind of cheap keyboard but what's astonishing is that I use the laptop keyboard very often I use an external keyboard to do my work. I am pretty fed up with this laptop. performance wise its good but build wise 0 star.

Hi @ks_charan, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Omen 16 is having serious hardware issues, especially with the touchpad and keyboard. Since you’ve already had the touchpad issue "fixed" once but it's resurfacing, it could be a recurring hardware defect. Here are some advanced troubleshooting steps you can try before considering further repair options:

Check for Physical Damage or Loose Connections

  • Since the HP engineer previously found a faulty touchpad wire, it’s possible that:
    • The wire was not properly secured.
    • It has come loose again.
    • There's a defect in the touchpad module.
  • If you're comfortable opening the laptop (or if it’s out of warranty), you can carefully inspect the touchpad connector inside. Look for:
    • Loose or partially disconnected ribbon cables.
    • Any visible damage (burn marks, corrosion, etc.).
    • Dust or debris interfering with the connection.

Disable the Touchpad Temporarily

  • Since it’s acting crazy, test if disabling it stabilizes the system:
    1. Disable via Windows Settings
      • Go to Settings → Devices → Touchpad
      • Toggle Off the touchpad.
    2. Disable via Device Manager
      • Press Win + X → Click Device Manager
      • Expand Human Interface Devices
      • Right-click HID-compliant touchpad → Select Disable device
      • Restart and check if the problem stops.

Update or Roll Back Touchpad Driver

  • If the problem is software-related, driver updates might help:
    1. Update Driver:
      • Open Device Manager
      • Find HID-compliant touchpad
      • Right-click → Update driver
      • Choose Search automatically for drivers
      • Restart after installation.
    2. Roll Back Driver:
      • If the issue started after a Windows update, try rolling back:
        • Right-click HID-compliant touchpadProperties
        • Go to the Driver tab → Click Roll Back Driver (if available).
        • Restart and test.

Try HP’s Diagnostics

  • HP laptops have built-in hardware tests:
    • Turn off your laptop → Hold Esc while pressing the power button → Press F2 when prompted.
    • Run Component Tests for the touchpad.
    • If the test fails, it confirms a hardware issue.

Check for BIOS Update

  • HP sometimes releases firmware fixes for touchpad issues:
    • Go to HP Support Website → Search for your Omen 16 model.
    • Download and install the latest BIOS update.
    • Restart and check if the problem persists.

Check for Interference

  • Some users reported that grounding issues can cause touchpad glitches.
    • Test on Battery vs. Plugged In
      • If it happens only when plugged in, try using a different power adapter or outlet.
    • Disable Power Saving on Touchpad
      • Open Device Manager
      • Right-click HID-compliant touchpad → Properties
      • Go to Power Management tab → Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi! Thanks for your reply unfortunately none of this worked because its a hardware issue and i have confirmed it and its not the only hardware issue the keyboard keys are also starting to come apart utterly disappointing for a 150k rs laptop. Sad
