OMEN 17.3 inch Gaming Laptop PC 17-ck0000 (2Y4A6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

About 3 weeks ago my computer started having frame rate issues. This happened seemingly overnight. I haven't downloaded anything new. Games I have been playing for years are completely unplayable because of frame rate drops and freezing. Another post describes the same exact issue on the same exact computer. The post ( https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Notebooks/lag-with-unknown-reason/td-p/9305910 ) I have tried all the offered advice that was left under that post and my issue remains. Any help would be appreciated.

@rice777, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It seems like your OMEN gaming laptop is experiencing frame rate drops and freezing.

Start by updating your graphics drivers from the HP Support website or Device Manager.

Check background processes in Task Manager to ensure nothing is using up too many resources.

Adjust your power settings to High Performance in the battery settings and ensure both Windows 11 and your games are up to date.

Try clearing the temporary files. Click the WIN+R combination key and type the following one after the other:

  1. temp
  2. %temp%
  3. prefetch

Delete all the files from these as they are temporary files.

Run a full malware scan to rule out any performance-draining software, and if needed, consider doing a system restore to revert to a time before the issue started.

Also, I suggest you update the BIOS of the system. You may refer to this guide: HP Consumer Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) (Windows) | HP® Support

You may use the HP Support Assistant tool to update the unit: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

I tried all of these as well as many other benchmark tests nothing has fixed the issue. The issue randomly happens, there is no way I can replicate it. It just starts dropping frames and lagging around 25% of the time. On task manger the only thing high listed is McAfee framework host services.
