Hi @LittleBird7,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting a compatibility error with your black #63 cartridge can be frustrating, but here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the cartridge is indeed a genuine HP #63 cartridge and not a counterfeit or refurbished one. Look for the HP logo and packaging authenticity.

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Remove the black #63 cartridge from your printer.
  • Clean the gold contacts on the cartridge with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert the cartridge, making sure it clicks into place securely.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. You can usually find updates on the HP Support website. Install any available updates.

Check for Firmware Locks:

  • Some printers may have firmware that restricts the use of non-genuine cartridges. If you recently updated the printer's firmware, it may have enforced these restrictions.

Try Another Cartridge:

  • If possible, try a different black #63 cartridge. This will help you determine if the issue is with the cartridge itself or the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
