My envy 7800 keeps getting registered as 7855 and is sending the wrong ink to our location. Current in on our printer is 64/303 for color and 64/303 804 for black. Ink being sent is 61/301 for black and color.

Hi @Bryan009,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Envy 7800 printer is being misidentified as the Envy 7855, causing the wrong ink cartridges to be sent. Here's how to resolve the issue:

1. Confirm Your Printer Model

  • Double-check the printer model on the front or back of the device or in the printer settings menu to ensure it is indeed an Envy 7800 series (e.g., 7830, 7855).
  • Look for the product number (e.g., K7R96A) if available. This can help confirm the exact model.

2. Update Printer Registration

  • Log in to your HP Smart account or the HP Instant Ink account associated with your printer.
  • Verify the printer's model listed in your account. If it shows as "Envy 7855" instead of "Envy 7800," manually remove the printer and re-add it with the correct details:
    1. Go to Devices in your account settings.
    2. Remove the misregistered printer.
    3. Re-add the printer by entering the correct serial number found on the device.

3. Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Outdated firmware can sometimes cause incorrect printer identification.
    • Download the latest firmware for your Envy 7800 series from the HP Support Website.
    • Install it via the HP Smart app or the printer's software utility.

4. Check Ink Cartridge Compatibility

  • Your printer should use HP 64/303 cartridges for both black and color (depending on region-specific numbering). Ensure these are being shipped.
  • The cartridges being sent (61/301) are incompatible with the Envy 7800 series.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
