False advertising.

When buying a new HP printer you are forced to configure it through HP Smart. If you also subscribe for the 6 month trial period,  HP steals your payed cartridges (which comes with the printer) by changing them into Instant Ink cartridges and starting the trial immediately instead of the promised delayed start so you can finish your payed for cartridges first. When contacting support they tell you that your payed for cartridges now belong to HP and you cannot use them freely.  This is unacceptable , stealing property. 

The Instant Ink trial period states 700 pages free printing.  This is exactly the amount of pages you can print with the cartridges delivered with the printer,  so what free printing! This is false advertising. 

HP support do not offer any solution.  I have been using HP printers all of my life,  and that's quite some time,  but since this **bleep**,  no more. 

My advice is not to buy HP.

700 pages at 5% coverage, but if you print with higher coverage ( printing photos and posters) then you can print 50 pages with ink cartridges and since you are paying by the page you print not by ink consumed the more you consume ink the better for you.

Dear Valsimot,

true what you say, but that is not my issue. 

The point is when you decide not to continue your subscription for Instant Ink,  even after printing1 page,  you can throw away your payed and still full cartridges because they are blocked by HP.

Beside the fact that according to the advertisement you can first use up your old cartridges before the trial period starts. (After installing the received Instant Ink)

The owner of the instant ink cartridge is the Instant ink service, not the user because you are not paying for cartridges you are paying for pages that's the deal. Once you cancel Instant ink cartridges that are ownership of Instant ink will no longer work no matter how full or empty they are.

I think you did not understand my statement. 

When I buy a new printer,  it comes with ink cartridges. 

I bought  and payed for them,  so I am the owner.

The moment you install your printer HP confiscates them. In my opinion this is theft.

But Instant ink is an option, you don't need to activate it and use it. You have 7 days to activate it to "receive" 6 months of free Instant ink if you don't activate it you can buy ink cartridges by yourself.
