HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer

HP black ink cartridge will only print approx 40 pages of light copies before it malfunctions; won't print some lines, some lines are blank through the center of the letters, etc. Cartridge still has approx 70 percent ink. This has happened several times. 50 plus cents per copy. Very frustrating. New cartridge works fine. Try old cartridge after auto and manual cleaning with same result. Back to new cartridge. Ink not coming out of old cartridge for some reason. Any ideas? Thanks.

@Timcalifornia,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Deep Cleaning Cycle – If your printer has a "Deep Cleaning" or "Second-Level Cleaning" option, try that.

  • Manual Cleaning with Warm Water
    • Remove the cartridge.
    • Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with warm (not hot) distilled water.
    • Gently wipe the printhead (the copper/gold contacts).
    • Let it air dry before reinstalling.
  • Soaking the Printhead
    • If wiping doesn’t work, place the printhead section in a shallow dish of warm water for about 10–15 minutes.
    • Dry thoroughly and reinstall.
  • Tap or Shake the Cartridge – Air bubbles might be blocking ink flow. Try shaking the cartridge gently to redistribute the ink.
  • Try a Different Cartridge Batch – If this keeps happening with multiple cartridges, you might have received a bad batch. Check the expiration date
  • Store Cartridges Properly – Keep unopened cartridges stored upright in a cool, dry plac

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the information. Soaking in warm water resolved the issue.
