Folks - How do I get a refund for instant ink payments?
I ended up in the InstantInk enrollment despite not wanting it - figured, no biggie, I'll cancel. I see the billings start happen and call to cancel because the overage charges are just silly and make whatever savings are promised impossible because my print volume varies from virtually nothing in a month to a lot of pages - and this is fine, however, what I'm not pleased about is that I'm still on my original ink cartridge (the one that I purchased when I bought my printer).
I called customer service and they explain that I also can't use my cartridge anymore. So I'm feeling rather slighted - I've bought and personally paid for the cartridge in my system right now, I've also paid an extra ~$40 or so to instant ink, and while they've shipped me a cartridge which remains unopened, I'm still using my original ink.
I ask to be escalated to a manager - simply give me the RMA and I'll return your ink, refund me the $40 I've paid since HP has basically charged me to use my own ink. I wait on hold, am escalated, but of course I'm escalated after much wait to someone that can't receive a message and the phone system hangs up - of course no call back. The whole experience was extremely time consuming and frustrating. Is there some other method of dealing with this, or am I stuck feeling totally ripped off by HP.

Welcome to the HP support community.
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Community.
