Common problems for INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Instant Ink. Check out this link: HP INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER. .

I have recently purchased my Deskjet printer and signed up for Instant Ink. I have received my first ink cartridges today but need to confirm when I insert these into my printer as I currently have the setup cartridges installed. I received an email which suggested that this action should be undertaken on receipt of my first Instant Ink set of cartridges but the instructions contained in the package received state that they should not be used until the existing ink cartridges are empty....hence I am confused!! Please could someone advise me on this?

Hi @Oaksmere,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It's important to note that you can continue to use your setup cartridges until they are nearly empty before switching to the Instant Ink cartridges you received. Here's what you should do:

Use Current Cartridges: Keep using the setup cartridges until you see a low ink alert. This ensures that you fully utilize the remaining ink in your current cartridges.

Change to Instant Ink Cartridges: Once you receive a low ink warning, you can install the Instant Ink cartridges. These cartridges should only be used once your current cartridges are nearly depleted.

Check Ink Levels: Monitor ink levels either using the HP app or directly on the printer's display (if available), so you know when to change the cartridges.

Instant Ink cartridges can look different from normal cartridges; they're designed for extended use as part of the Instant Ink subscription service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
