Set up and installed the original black and tri-color ink cartridges in a, never been used,  Photosmart D110 printer.

Control panel showed Full ink levels.  Ran a test page but came out Blank.  Ran it several times with the "Clean Ink Cartridge" mode, but very faint images appeared.  (Yes, I did remove the adhesive covering over the nozzle).  How do I get the ink to flow out?

Hi! @AL701

Does the issue persist when you make a copy from the printer?

Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge?

Replace low, empty or faulty ink cartridges on the printer.

Reset the printer and check the power source

Reset the printer to clear certain error states by calibrating the scanner mechanism, and then check the power source to confirm the printer is getting enough power to operate the copier.

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.

  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer.

  3. Disconnect the power cord from the power source, and then wait 30 seconds.

  4. If you previously connected the power cord to a power strip or multi-plug outlet adapter, reconnect the cord directly to a wall outlet to ensure the printer is getting enough power.

  5. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer, and then turn on the printer.

  6. If you have an HP DeskJet 3700 series printer, calibrate the scanner after resetting the printer.

  7. Load the original document or photo, and then start a copy job.

    • If the issue persists, connect the printer power cord to a different wall outlet to determine if the original outlet is causing the issue.

Thanks for your input!  It was not a Power issue.  Went out and bought a new Black ink cartridge.  After installing it, ran a test page and it was FINE!

I assume this printer is a few years old, and the original ink cartridges that I recently installed didn't put out.

How long will ink stay solvent in a cartridge before it dries up?

HP Recommended

Hi @AL701

To keep cartridges from drying out, always turn the printer off using the Power button, and wait until the Power light goes out before you pull the plug or turn off a power strip. This allows the printer to move the cartridges to a capped position.

If you remove a cartridge from the printer for any reason, try to replace it again as soon as possible. Outside of the printer, if unprotected, cartridges begin to dry out. If the printer uses separate ink cartridges and printhead, the printhead can be damaged if cartridges are not installed.

Have a great day!
